Essel Estimator (Public Works) in Walnut Creek, California
Job Description: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will play a crucial role in the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of our Public Work bids division.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with customers and subcontractors on each project to build long-lasting partnerships. Manage expectations and ensure customer satisfaction.
Communicate with the estimating team to ensure the success of bids.
Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location, and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
Download, print, and review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions; record findings and solicit input from field operations for inclusion in the final project estimate.
Identify risks on assigned projects and discuss solutions with Senior Estimators.
Exemplify attributes that mirror company core values such as integrity, work ethic, and honesty. Take initiative to lead, train, and develop team members.
Present bid-level value engineering decisions with input from the estimating team.
Enter all cost elements of bids and discuss takeoff items with the Senior Estimator. Recommend overhead and profit percentages.
Prepare private bid proposals with final review by the Senior Estimator. Assist in preparing technical proposals.
Perform bid contract reviews and learn major terms/risks with Senior Estimator guidance.
Determine quantities "take-offs" and/or review "take-off" quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.
Develop and maintain positive business relationships to increase bid opportunities in local & regional markets.
Submit RFIs to Agencies, Owners, General Contractors, and Architects as needed during the bidding process.
Analyze and evaluate bidding risks, strategies, and participate in bid reviews with management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Travel as necessary to visit job sites & preconstruction meetings.
Prepare bid documents for submission to ensure bid day responsiveness.
Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at estimator handoff meetings to ensure understanding of the scope of the job and critical means and methods of construction.
Support Project Managers as needed to ensure control of construction costs and maintain the integrity of bids.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Must have 5 years or more experience in the construction industry and minimum 1 year of experience estimating in at least a junior estimating capacity.
Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, and construction processes.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in estimation software (Agtek, Bluebeam, Heavy Bid, Spectrum) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
