Fresenius Medical Care North America Senior Manager of Infection Prevention (Remote) in Waltham, Massachusetts

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under the direction of Patient Safety and Clinical Services management team, responsible for the initiation of Infection Control and Prevention measures throughout the organization according to accepted standards and regulatory requirements. Responsible for maintaining records and preparing reports related to infection control: data; surveillance, investigation, documentation. Maintaining infection control policies and procedures congruent with state and regulatory agencies and assures compliance. Assists in developing staff education related to infection control policies and standards. Collaborates with other departments including the medical office, regulatory affairs, quality, and education as they assist in identification and reduction of infections and infection control concerns.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, coordinates and collaborates on activities and infection control measures which prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases throughout the organization.

  • Possesses knowledge of principles of epidemiology and infectious disease.

  • Participates in the planning, development, evaluation, and monitoring of surveillance activities to identify incidence, trends, and variations in disease and infection.

  • Develops programs and initiatives that will reduce the chance of contracting disease

  • Conducts interviews to better understand the spread of disease

  • Implements appropriate plans and measurements for prevention and control of infection.

  • Participates in epidemiological investigation when indicated and reports findings to appropriate individuals and committees.

  • Participates in analyzing and reporting infection surveillance findings.

  • Effectively communicates infection control concerns to appropriate individuals and committees.

  • Serves as a resource to the organization in the ongoing effort to minimize the risk of infection to patients and staff.

  • Collaboratively designs educational programs with the Education Department to meet objectives of the Organization.

  • Works to minimize costs associated with occurrence and the prevention of infection

  • Works collaboratively with the Health, Risk and Safety Department to identify and minimize the risk of infection resulting from work activities.

  • Assists in designing and monitoring systems to comply with standards and regulations pertaining to infection control.

  • Assists in implementing prevention initiatives.

  • Participates as an investigator during outbreaks of infection

  • Participates in reviewing and revising all policies and procedures

  • Serves as a member on Infection Control and Prevention Committees

  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Current unrestricted license as an RN-Registered Nurse

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, healthcare preferred, Advanced degree desirable

  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing Preferred

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum 8 years related experience.

  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in infection control.

  • 3-5 years patient care experience in a clinical dialysis setting.

  • 2+ years' experience as a Clinical Manager preferred.

  • Certification in Patient Safety desired.

  • Excellent communication skills-verbal and written.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multi-dimensional health care related activities.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including, but not limited to communication, customer service, performance management and continuous quality improvement (CQI).

  • Certification in infection control desirable.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external organizations.

  • Able to develop, organize, and lead projects under the supervision of the VP of Patient Safety.

  • Able to review and/or revise policies and procedures based on current scientific evidence and/or best practice information.

  • Skills in data management, collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to groups and individuals.

  • Expert knowledge of infection control: specifically blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.

  • Organizational, critical thinking and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and strong time-management.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Expert skills in reporting and metrics.

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team.
