Job Title: HR Generalist
Job Description
This person will be responsible for managing various HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, employment verification, background checks, benefits administration, open enrollment, unemployment tracking, employee relations, and ensuring compliance with HR laws. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR processes and be able to maintain and improve existing systems. The ideal person has multiple years of experience working in HR at the head of the department, and not being guided by anyone else.
Responsibilities
Recruiting and hiring process, including finding candidates for positions
Candidate screening for interviews for department heads
New hire onboarding
Employment verifications and background checks
H-2B process, coordination, and administration
Managing layoffs and terminations
Benefits administration, renewals, and open enrollment
Reconciling and approving benefits invoices
Unemployment tracking and requirements
COBRA and 401k administration
ACA (Affordable Care Act) recording
Employee relations
MUST program and physical tracking and administration
Drug testing, MUST, and physicals
Keeping OSHA forms up to date as needed
Accident tracking and claims
Employee asset tracking, including keys, lockers, tablets, etc.
Creating folders, tracking, and Vista updates for employee reviews
Keeping current on HR laws and policies
Managing employee portal and library documents
Event planning
Essential Skills
Minimum 3+ years experience in HR Generalist or HR Manager role
Experience leading an HR department or being the sole HR representative
Experience working in construction, manufacturing, or shop environment
Ability to work with employees at all levels
Knowledge of HR laws and policies
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Over 5 years experience in Human Resources
Union experience or labor relations
HR experience in a construction company
Experience with 'Vista' or 'Viewpoint' software systems
