DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: This role will execute tasks across two key job functions, Sustainability and Business Development.

For Sustainability, this role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategies that minimize our environmental impact and promote social responsibility. This includes preparing and delivering external communications such as an annual ESG report and other standard communications to be used directly with Coherent customers and other external stakeholders.

For Business Development, this role will conduct analyses and execute projects supporting a variety of business development activities including strategic initiatives for the company on a global scale or in select business units; government relations and securing government investment opportunities; and mergers and acquisitions.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities * Develop and implement elements of a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the organization's ESG goals and objectives. * Collaborate with external partners, consultants, and organizations to leverage expertise and resources in advancing corporation initiatives. * Support and possibly manage corporate projects that require business strategy, business relationships, and overall business development skills such as government relations and Mergers & Acquisitions. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability principles into business processes, products, and services. * Research and stay informed about industry best practices, regulations, and trends related to sustainability, and recommend relevant actions. * Establish targets, metrics, and reporting mechanisms to track progress towards sustainability goals and communicate performance internally and externally. * Develop and deliver training programs and educational materials to increase awareness and understanding of sustainability issues and practices, both with internal audiences and with suppliers. * Manage sustainability projects, including cost estimation, resource allocation, and timeline management, to ensure successful implementation and achievement of objectives. * Develop plans for all-hands engagement on sustainability, to foster a culture of sustainability and promote stakeholder engagement. * Prepare sustainability reports, presentations, and communications for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board of directors, customers, investors, and sustainability ratings agencies. * Become the company subject matter expert on the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct. Perform assessments and audits to evaluate current sustainability practices and identify areas for improvement, in particular related to the RBA Code. * Review incoming customer ESG requests and prepare appropriate response; coordinate the delivery of the response with sales account manager. This may include direct customer contact by email, video conference, or in person as appropriate. * Conduct due diligence and analysis for a variety of business development opportunities. Develop appropriate recommendations and corresponding communications. * Manage business development projects, including cost estimation, resource allocation, and timeline management, to ensure successful implementation and achievement of objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on a global basis. Exercise appropriate judgement and maintain appropriate discretion while working on projects of a highly confidential nature.

Education & Experience * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Engineering or Science discipline * Two years of work experience (including relevant internships)

Skills * Excellent written and spoken English required * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. * Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change in complex organizational environments. * Strong understanding of sustainability principles, practices, and frameworks, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) * Proficiency in sustainability reporting and data management tools/software. * Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the fields of business development and sustainability. * Passion for sustainability and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the environment and society. * US Citizenship strongly desired due to interactions with potential US Government projects * Ability to communicate in other languages (especially Mandarin) is desired but not required.

Working Conditions * Typical workday is full time during regular scheduled hours. * Occasional early mornings or late nights as necessary to interact with colleagues, customers, or suppliers across global time zones. * Travel 10-50% both domestically and internationally. Travel will average 25% but will have heavy and light periods depending on project activities.

Physical Requirements * Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. * Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. * Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.

Quality and Environmental Responsibilities Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
