Director I - Safety, Quality & Patient Experience

As the Director of Safety, Quality and Patient Experience (SQPE), you will direct SQPE within Cleveland Clinic's South Pointe Hospital, act as a member of the local leadership team and support unique challenges within South Pointe Hospital. SQPE Directors model Cleveland Clinic Core Values and behavioral standards, ensure compliance with reporting, accreditation and governance requirements, enable the safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered (STEEEP) focus on SQPE, lead hospital SQPE departments to ensure consistency in application of assurance and improvement processes, and collaborate with subject matter expert leaders in nursing quality, accreditation, environmental health and safety (EHS), and more to drive the organization to a consistent approach to being the best place to get care anywhere.

A caregiver in this position works 8:00am - 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Collaborate with leadership and support teams to develop and maintain an integrated quality plan to achieve safety, quality and patient experience goals.

  • Act as an accountable partner for all clinical areas within their areas of responsibility

  • Communicate priorities to stakeholders at all levels and drive performance on hospital OKRs related to safety, quality, and patient experience.

  • Support the medical staff peer review and committees for quality improvement.

  • Ensure ongoing professional practice evaluation and focused evaluations are conducted thoroughly and justly.

  • Drive continuous improvement activity around quality, safety, and patient experience priorities and coordinate improvement projects.

  • Ensure continuous patient and survey readiness for the hospital and all associated outpatient locations.

  • Act as the local leader with the infection prevention department to reduce infections.

  • Measure and analyze data reflecting processes and outcomes prioritized by the hospital and Clinical Transformation Leadership Team.

  • Act as the local expert in safety and quality performance for the hospital.

  • Facilitate dashboard reviews, data analysis and decision-making from data.

  • Identify and address root causes to lead to sustainable improvement.

  • Act as a champion for continuous improvement utilizing the Cleveland Clinic Improvement Model.

  • Coach others to improve organizational capacity for improvement.

  • Manage the budget for the local quality department as a steward of limited resources.

  • Support enterprise improvement projects as necessary.

  • Develop relationships with skilled nursing facilities, home care agencies, and other groups that support the patients served by the hospital.

  • Present to the governing body on quality performance and goals.

  • Ensure productivity, performance, and engagement of local clinical transformation team members regardless of reporting relationships.

  • Manage SQPE at a multiple campus hospital under a single Medicare provider number or a large specialized medical center as defined by Vizient but does not dual hat as a submarket leader.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, business, engineering or a related field.

  • Seven years of process improvement or quality management experience.

  • Progressive quality and performance improvement research, leadership, supervisor or project team management experience.

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) upon hire or within one year of hire.

  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master's degree.

  • Healthcare experience.

  • Certified Patient Safety Professional (CPPS), Healthcare Accreditation Certification Program (HACP), Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP), Certified in Infection Control (CIC) and/or Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP).

  • Process Improvement certification (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.

  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.

  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $53.90

Maximum hourly: $82.19

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
