BUILDING INSPECTOR: FIRE & BUILDING CODES

HOURS: 35 Hours per week SALARY: $42,000.00 - $47,000.00 per year

Temporary position 08/21/2024 - 2/21/2025

LOCATION: Wyoming County Emergency Services

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Building Inspector is responsible for enforcing the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code along with relevant municipal codes and regulations. Activities are conducted both in the office and at inspection sites. The work is performed under the general supervision of a Code Enforcement Officer with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Will perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates degree in fire science; OR

B. Two (2) years experience as a paid fire fighter consisting of population exceeding 40,000; or seven (7) years experience as a volunteer firefighter; OR

C. Completed the minimum training required by NYS Department of State to meet the minimum qualifications of Code Enforcement Officer; OR

D. Seven (7) years minimum experience working in a construction field; OR

E. An equivalency combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) through (D)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State drivers license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrates their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
