HOURS: 8:30 A.M. 4:30 P.M. SALARY: $21.86 - $25.04 per hour

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Caseworker Trainee will serve a term of training for one year. The work involves responsibility for providing social work services to individuals, including children, families and/or caregivers while participating in a continuous in-service training program. The trainee level receives on-the-job training while performing duties of a limited nature under close and continuing supervision. Once the Caseworker Trainee completes one year of permanent competitive class service and receives satisfactory ratings, they will be advanced to the position of Caseworker without further examination.

The Caseworker provides social work services to individuals, including children, families, and/or caregivers. Caseworkers assist clients with economic, emotional, social and environmental difficulties by making necessary service referrals to address the social problems identified throughout the course of a case. The Caseworker, consulting with a higher-level Caseworker, formulates and carries out plans to meet individual and/or family problems of the cases assigned. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level Caseworker, or Case Supervisor Grade B, with extensive mandated training provided through the State and the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelors degree in Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or a closely related Human Services field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State drivers license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.

THE INCUMBENT WILL BE A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT.

Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the candidate must provide independent verification of equivalency.
