County Historian

35 hours per week SALARY: $23.57 per hour

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The purpose of the County Historian is to collect, preserve, interpret and document the history of Wyoming County and provide records for the use of the public and other interested parties. Work also involves the research of properties of historical importance, presenting programs of a historical nature to local groups, as well as preparing articles for the county historical magazine. Work is performed under the general directions of the Board of Supervisors. General supervision is exercised over the Assistant County Historian. Does related work as requires.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Possession of a Bachelors Degree in history or a related field; OR

B. Graduation from high school or possession of a general equivalency diploma and four (4) years experience conducting historical research, archival records work or a related activity; OR

C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience may be prorated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates MUST submit a copy of transcripts showing degree area and date degree conferred with application.

  2. Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the candidate must provide independent verification of equivalency.
