Wyoming County Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility Recreation Activities Specialist in Warsaw, New York

RECREATION ACTIVITIES SPECIALIST: WYOMING COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH SYSTEM (SKILLED NURSING FACILITY)

HOURS: Primarily day shift SALARY: $55,530.17 - $62,050.75 per year

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Recreation Activities Specialist is a paraprofessional position involving the coordination, development and supervision of activity plans and schedules for residents of the Skilled Nursing Facility. The incumbent will report directly to the Nursing Facility Administrator.

Typical Work Activities:

-Supervises all activities, staff and volunteers, including students in recreation or music therapy, assigning daily duties and responsibilities;

-Assist in the evaluation and selection of program staff and volunteers;

-Develops an individualized activities plan for each resident;

-Incorporates each residents activities plan into their comprehensive care plan with the approval of the attending physician;

-Assess under the guidance of the attending physician, residents which are medically able to participate in the activities program;

-Review periodically and at least quarterly, each residents activities plan and revise as necessary;

-Coordinates the activities program with other residential services to develop a monthly activities schedule, assures that schedule is posted appropriately;

-Arranges for religious services as appropriate;

-Additional duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Per the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals: The Activities program must be directed by a qualified professional who is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is licensed or registered, if applicable, by the State in which practicing; AND is:

A. Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an Activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; OR

B. Has two (2) full years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; OR

C. Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; OR

D. Has completed a training course approved by the State.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates MUST submit a copy of transcripts showing degree area and date degree conferred with application.

  2. Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the candidate must provide independent verification of equivalency.
