DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Senior Social Services Program Specialist is responsible for reviewing the eligibility determinations of benefit programs by reviewing cases and files for accuracy. The incumbent reviews all appropriate cases to ensure accurate compilation of household income, proper coding, the issuance of necessary referrals, accurate payment lines, correct expenses issued for services rendered and reviews any other information detailed in the case for accuracy and program compliance. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Principal Social Services Program Specialist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates degree and two (2) years of experience in examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance or benefits; OR
B. Four (4) years experience in examining, investigating or evaluating claims, OR
C. An equivalent combination of training or experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
THE INCUMBENT WILL BE A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT.

Degree(s) must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, the candidate must provide independent verification of equivalency.
