Construction and Real Estate Attorney

What you will do

In this vital role Amgen’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced Construction and Real Estate Attorney candidate to provide legal advice and legal transactional support to various departments and business units of Amgen, primarily with respect to construction-related matters, real estate transactions, leasing, and other real estate related matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and draft complex construction contracts and design agreements for large and small projects throughout the United States and internationally.

  • Strong advocate for client’s position in pre-litigation construction disputes, including experience with lien rights, construction defect claims, and enforcement of warranty rights.

  • Negotiate and draft complex purchase and sale agreements and support relevant due diligence activities including familiarity with title insurance policies, surveys, and real estate related environmental matters.

  • Draft and negotiate leases, subleases, and all associated lease documentation.

  • Comfortable advising on complex construction and real estate related issues on projects located throughout the United States and internationally, with the ability to obtain, understand, and communicate to business partners local counsel advice where applicable.

  • Manage outside counsel and outside counsel legal budgets

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The legal professional we seek will have the following qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

J.D. degree or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and two (2) years of experience practicing Real Estate and Construction law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top tier law firm and/or in-house experience at a multi-national corporation

  • Biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical experience

  • Insurance experience in areas associated with construction and real estate

  • International project experience

  • M&A experience related to real estate assets

  • Familiarity with AIA suite of construction and design agreements

  • Familiarity with lean principles of construction project delivery

  • Subject matter expert in construction and real estate law

  • Ability to work independently, with some supervision, on complex transactions

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk and to exercise sound legal judgment

  • Ability to influence and provide support for other attorneys and paralegals

  • Must be team-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a solution-oriented approach to legal issues

  • Self-motivated, with outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate complex concepts and issues effectively with all levels of management

  • Ability to multi-task and work quickly and collaboratively under tight deadlines

  • Highly organized with ability to effectively manage outside counsel

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
