Amazon Security Engineer, Threat Detections, Subsidiary and Acquisition Security Team in Washington DC, District Of Columbia

Description

Amazon’s Subsidiary and Acquisition (S&A) Security team is looking for a highly motivated Threat Detection Engineer to join our team and implement detective and protective mechanisms for our products. You will play a pivotal role in fortifying our defense mechanisms and proactively identifying and mitigating potential threats. You should be a technically experienced and innovative security engineer who has the ability to understand systems, security, and privacy processes, communicate to customers, and to be able to drive innovative process changes through multiple organizations and teams.

Key job responsibilities

  • Threat Detection: Utilize previous experience analyzing large datasets to develop, measure, and tune detection rules to ensure effective and sustainable operations.

  • Forensics and Analysis: Analyze incidents to understand attack vectors, tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs).

  • Threat Hunting: Search for signs of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and other malicious

activities, utilizing internal data sources.

  • Rule and Content Development: Craft and refine detection rules, use cases and signatures to enhance the accuracy of detection systems, adapting to emerging threats and attack vectors.

  • Incident Response: Build mechanisms and detections to enable partner Incident Response teams triaging issues impacting the customer experience.

  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with incident responders, security engineers, and other stakeholders to improve the security posture of the S&A customer organizations.

The Subsidiary and Acquisition (S&A) Security team designs and engineers high-profile consumer devices, including the Ring, Blink, Amazon Keys, and Side walk family of products. The S&A team works to ensure that our services are designed and implemented to the high standards required to maintain and enhance customer trust. Security and Privacy are paramount to maintaining trust and we need to continue to build trusted products, maintain and operate trusted environments, and advocate trust to customers and stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a security engineering role.

  • 3+ years of experience across various Linux distributions including Redhat, Ubuntu and CentOS.

  • 2+ years of programming in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar object oriented language experience.

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS core services (EC2, S3, DDB, RDS, KMS, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Software Engineer, Security, or others) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Knowledge of common attack tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs).

  • Knowledge of Data Science best practices with proven experience evaluating large datasets.

  • Experience with analyzing logs, network traffic and endpoint data to identify malicious activity.

  • Familiarity with system security and SIEM platforms.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills while engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
