Overview
The Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Texas A&M University – D.C., is responsible for the administration and management of the programs at the Texas A&M Washington D.C. teaching site. This critical role involves strategic planning, leading initiatives, overseeing campus operations, and engaging with external constituencies.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Oversight
Provide leadership and oversight of all Texas A&M University and Bush School D.C. functions, including planning, directing, and evaluating all academic and business operations at the teaching site.
Provide information and reporting to the Dean and Sr. Vice President and Chief External Affairs Officer.
Establish and sustain critical relationships with external constituencies.
Serve as an advisor/consultant to the Texas A&M community regarding Texas A&M D.C. operations.
Oversee the renovation and expansion of the TAMU-DC location and daily operations related to the teaching site.
Manage the allocation of infrastructure and resources.
Direct the administration of University and college-wide programs and initiatives.
Engage with College and School leadership to develop new opportunities for growth at the teaching site.
Administer academic and non-academic activities of the teaching site.
Schedule, coordinate, deconflict, and oversee other university agency/college units using the facilities at the teaching site for their programs.
Develop, direct, and evaluate process compliance and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with, and participate in, required training and professional development sessions.
Lead the development and oversight of communications, promotions, and public relations for the teaching site.
Ensure full coordination with centralized functions of university operations.
Lead the Texas A&M University D.C. development effort.
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors and supporting individuals and organizations.
Represent programs at the DC teaching site at local levels.
Serve on various State, local, University, College, and System-wide committees.
Planning
Lead the development of short-term and long-term Texas A&M University and Bush School D.C. goals and objectives.
Manage strategic planning and development of integrated programs for the site, ensuring alignment with college/university strategic plans.
Work with University Program Offices, including the public policy internship program and career services, to determine opportunities for enhanced programming in D.C.
Serve as a liaison and build partnerships and working relationships with external organizations, including government organizations, community leaders, and other academic institutions in the area.
Recommend new teaching site, College, and/or University-wide policies or revisions to existing policies.
Stay abreast of developments in the fields of international affairs, national security, and intelligence.
Supervision
Directly supervise and maintain responsibility for multiple units at the teaching site, including directing the efforts of and supervising management and other staff.
Oversee all personnel actions at the teaching site, including hiring, pay and benefits, and the full range of personnel actions and activities.
Fiscal/Resource Management
- Responsible for all fiscal operations and effective budget management at Bush School D.C.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree.
Ten years’ experience in senior leadership roles within government entities, military, academia, non-profit, or private sector.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree.
More than ten years’ experience in senior-level direction and management within government entities, military, academia, non-profit, and/or private sector.
Teaching experience.
Extensive experience in the Washington policy world and demonstrated management skills in a policy and/or academic environment.
