Continuous Improvement Specialist

This position is contingent upon Customer approval, funding, and position availability.

POSITION SUMMARY

Amentum seeks a qualified, solutions and results-oriented candidate to serve as a Continuous Improvement Specialist in anticipation of an award. The Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for leading ongoing continuous improvement initiatives, designing actionable strategies and implementation plans in coordination with technical subject matter experts and operational personnel to drive performance excellence. This position will work closely with the project leadership, monitoring and evaluation, communications and the knowledge management personnel to integrate feedback and translate opportunities for increased efficiencies into concrete process improvement. In addition to all the necessary qualifications of a contracts professional, the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic and high-energy environment.

This position will be considered fully remote but must be able to accommodate the Eastern US time zone.

DUTIES:

  • Applies knowledge of organizational processes to develop strategies to optimize workflow and eliminate waste.

  • In collaboration with project leadership, leads systems analysis, design, redesign, and reengineering of processes, systems, procedures, and operational changes to increase efficiency, safety, and effectiveness.

  • Leads ongoing employment engagement efforts and obtains timely inputs to support adjustments to existing processes, procedures, and systems to identify areas for improvement and implement change.

  • Designs and oversees implementation of practical process improvement interventions to optimize organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Translates customer feedback and technical inputs for improved and streamlined operational delivery into concrete products (process maps, workflows, on the job guides, templates, etc.)

  • Supports project team and leads CI projects through defined phases while adhering to establish timelines.

  • Work with internal and external partners (one on one and in a facilitating role for team workshops) to identify bottlenecks, apply data-driven solutions to make sustainable improvements across the supply chain to optimize project performance.

  • Provide lean improvement orientation and on-the-job training for teammates and teach others to lead improvement efforts.

  • Use key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost savings, productivity improvements, and increased customer satisfaction to measure the success of their initiatives.

  • Heads, identifies, develops, and executes or implements long-term and short-term continuous improvement strategies, working closely with production, planning, maintenance, and shipping to increase capacity, reduce lead times, improve delivery upon request, and improve product quality.

  • Plans, leads, defines, develops, reviews, and audits strategic activities for continuous improvement initiatives while following and helping established standards across the company.

  • Develops and tracks metrics related to improvement activities; and promotes standard processes, improved flow, waste elimination, and support management for daily improvement activities.

  • Provides strategic leadership to production personnel and assures that facility improvement initiatives support corporate strategy and goals.

  • Facilitates training and development in lean manufacturing techniques, working directly with the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, and QC Manager to assess, prioritize, and implement continuous improvement activities.

  • Conducts routine reviews and reports on overall continuous activities including accomplishments, participation, project activities, and anticipated needs of all continuous improvement activities, summarizing and reporting results for appropriate management as necessary.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in management consulting and/or organizational management.

  • Past experience successfully implementing a Continuous Improvement program.

  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or Master’s in Science (MSC) or Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferably economics, organization psychology, or behavioral science).

  • Demonstrated Six Sigma Black Belt experience, Lean training, or equivalent relevant leadership experience of process improvement efforts.

  • Master Black Belt qualifications and experience building organizational capabilities in Lean principles each a plus.

  • Relevant experience with USAID-funded projects, public health projects, or supply chain management projects preferred.

  • Ability to navigate organizational politics and stay flexible.

  • Adept at prioritizing with strong influencing skills.

  • Brings excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in written and oral English language required.

  • Availability to travel when needed required (10%).
