Summary The position is telework eligible consistent with the Agency’s telework and remote work program policy. This position is located in Office of Finance and Operations, Office of Human Resources in Washington, DC. The incumbent mission is to transform the Department of Education into a high-performance, customer-focused organization by providing services to our customers to assist in managing their people, processes, and overall strategy. As a Data Scientist, GS-1560-13, you will be responsible for: • Developing and administering data analysis and visualization products used to analyze datasets for mission critical reporting requirements. • Performing analysis and evaluation of business requirements and user needs as a component of planning and designing. • Developing plans for and trains others on assembling, evaluating, analyzing, and visually representing data. Conditions of Employment TELEWORK ELIGIBILITY: You may be eligible for occasional telework in which you are required to report to the office on a regular basis. Participation must be requested and approved by the supervisor and there must be a signed telework agreement. The number of telework days approved is determined by the agency policy, emergency situations, the approval of your immediate supervisor. You must have access to high speed internet and cell phone service meeting current Agency policy from the approved work location. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements You may meet the minimum qualifications for the GS-13, if you possess the specialize experience. Specialized Experience for the GS-13 One year of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-12 performing two (2) out of three (3) of the following duties or work assignments: 1. Experience using data science tools to restructure and clean data, conduct statistical analyses, develop visualizations, explain analyses to a wide range of audiences, evaluate statistical analyses of others, or deploy data solutions into production. 2. Experience developing business requirements, assessing information technology capacity, or implementing programs using data science methods (data wrangling, visualization, mining, etc.) across the organization. 3. Experience in communicating concepts to a lay audience, developing training materials and guides, or teaching data science techniques. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) The quality of your experience will be measured by the extent to which you possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). Ability to apply data visualization and integration services and techniques. 2. Knowledge of data analyses, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, or other scientific concepts. 3. Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices related to data management, data reliability, data validity, and statistical analysis. Education This position has a positive education requirement. Basic Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. Education cannot be substituted for experience for this position and grade level. Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
