The School of Medicine (http://som.georgetown.edu/) (SOM) is heir to the long and rich Catholic and Jesuit tradition of caring for the sick. The Georgetown medical experience is centered in “cura personalis” – care for the psychological, spiritual, social as well as physical well being of the person. It lays the groundwork for the intellectual and ethical formation of physician healers committed to the clinically competent care of and the well being of their patients and dedicated to the health needs of the underserved in our society.

The Educational Coordinator supports the daily planning and implementation of the curriculum across the 4-year M.D. degree program at the School of Medicine. S/he is responsible for assigned modules, courses, and other elements critical to the successful execution and advancement of the M.D. curriculum. Having an integral and collaborative role in curricular planning and coordination, the Educational Coordinator serves as a member of the curricular support staff team within the Office of Medical Education. Given the robust and evolving nature of the M.D. curriculum, this role analyzes and responds to unique curricular and logistical challenges and requirements related to School of Medicine, national accreditation, and faculty/leadership needs and priorities. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Contact assigned lecturers, negotiate curricular delivery mediums, collect handout and other curricular materials, confirm schedule dates, and review conflicts within the broader curriculum, coordinating, preparing, proofing, and posting syllabus and course materials.

  • Provide assistance to module/course director(s) with logistical planning of lectures, assignments, due dates, and evaluations, advising the module/course director of OME and GUSOM policies and assisting with lecture set up as necessary.

  • Create small group assignments, reserve rooms (as needed), coordinate AV requests and supplies for small group activities and labs, and keep track of attendance and grade impacts.

  • Correspond with students regarding the courses, reviews, exams, and syllabus, providing notification of any course changes.

  • Build and maintain an LMS Site (Canvas) presence for responsible module/course Coordinate exams, including: distributing and collecting questions to individual faculties, formatting and uploading to create electronic test, scheduling make-up exams, and creating/announcing exam logistics.

  • Serve as team leader for exam day proctoring, scoring and submitting reports to module director for approval, posting grades, and coordinating post exam review.

  • Assist in the implementation of faculty member’s instructional continuity plan during campus closures and delayed arrivals, supporting other curricular coordinators and courses as needed and/or assigned by the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Management.

  • Serve as one of the front-line staff in the Office of Medical Education, welcoming and triaging students, faculty, and visitors.

  • Manage incoming phone calls, accepting mail and fax communications, maintaining equipment, and, updating/stocking curricular forms and other supplies.

Work Interactions

The Office of Medical Education serves as the central office responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and advancement of the M.D. degree program curriculum. The office has direct oversight and coordination of pre-clinical education, in addition to clinical education through partnership with our affiliate clinical sites. This position works closely with medical students, faculty, and staff in the administrative function of curriculum implementation, evaluation, & development; and contributes to logistical, pedagogical, and technological innovation. The Educational Coordinator, together with the other pre-clinical and clinical curricular support staff within the Office of Medical Education, is supervised by the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Management. These seven individuals are responsible for distributing and implementing the four-years of medical education to over 800 medical students.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Experience working with educators, learners, and education support staff; 2 years of relevant experience and/or degree in curriculum, learning, project/program management, or similar preferred

  • Familiarity with a professional setting and comfortable learning and exploring new software/equipment and curricular facilitation tools

  • Must be a team player, organized, and possess strong time- management and communication skills

  • Comfortable following-through on assignments and responsibilities with minimal oversight

  • Experience in customer service, coordination, Canvas (or other LMS), and medical education highly desirable

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
