GENERAL LABORER TRAINEE

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The General Laborer Trainee is responsible for providing wide ranging labor support services to the foreman, supervisors or other designated persons to perform the construction of heavy highway construction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site,
  • Ability to follow project instructions from construction foreman and/or supervisor,
  • Ability to learn how to report any problems to the manager,
  • Ability to assist construction crew with various duties,
  • Must be able assistance to contractors (i.e. craft workers and electricians) as needed,
  • Ability to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task,
  • Ability to properly follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment,
  • Knowledge to follow all health and safety regulations when operating equipment,
  • Ability to use construction, maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks,
  • Ability to ensure regulated and proper headgear, ear plugs, gloves, safety glasses and clothing are worn,
  • Ability to unload tools, prepare building site materials, stack building materials, and set up equipment,
  • Assists in building scaffolding and/or other temporary structures,
  • Ability to lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies,
  • Ability to complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner,
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of tools,
  • May be called upon to run small power tools,
  • Must clean and clear debris and hazardous materials at the job site,
  • Ability to ensure that construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly,

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years,
  • Must be a DC resident,
  • Must possess less than one (1) year of construction experience,
  • Preferred to possess a current, valid drivers license (not under suspension or limitation),
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team,
  • Must be dependable and reliable,
  • Must report to work on time as required,
  • Must possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat and lift up to 50 pounds,
  • Must be comfortable climbing up ladders and working at elevated and/or subterranean elevations,
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
  • Must be willing to travel if required,
  • High school diploma or equivalency is desired,
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
