National Children's Center HEALTH COORDINATOR in Washington, District Of Columbia

SUMMARY : To ensure NCC continues to provide opportunities to the people within our community, the Health Coordinator for NCC’s ELC program is responsible for supervision of all students’ health and safety as well as health education and support to families and staff. The Health Coordinator is responsible for the maximum utilization and maintenance of ChildPlus as it applies to state and local requirements regarding health services.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and implements guidelines regarding universal precautions and maintaining a safe environment for children and staff. Trains staff as needed.

  • Maintains guidelines for best practices in medical service delivery for children with developmental delays in an inclusive environment

  • Administers medications to children per orders received from physicians

  • Provides first aid to any child injured while at the ELC

  • Ensures appropriate implementation of procedures for exclusion in the event a child has a contagious illness

  • Provides families with communicable disease notices and fact sheets in the event an exposure has occurred

  • Monitors the child’s needs for well-baby checks, oral health, and health certificates per District of Columbia regulations

  • Maintains communication regarding the child’s health status with parents, physicians, and any other care providers.

  • Receive doctor’s notes and return to school slips to confirm children are cleared to enter the facility

  • Provides guidance, training, and consultation to the classroom staff and families regarding the management of children with special health needs

  • Uses ChildPlus for health certificate and immunization updates; run reports to monitor compliance of health & dental certificates

  • Uses ChildPlus to record all medications dispensed and medical treatments/first aid provided

  • Ensure classroom first-aid kits are in compliance with licensing standards

  • Other duties and shifts as assigned by the Program Manager

  • Conducts classroom observations related to early learning health and safety requirements and practices.

  • Conducts classroom inspections for health and safety regulatory requirements.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

  • LPN or a related field with a minimum experience of three years in a childhood setting or clinic/hospital

  • CPR/ First Aid certification

  • Previous experience with special needs populations preferred

  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards

  • Knowledge of OSSE licensing requirements.

  • Knowledge of health-related services to the community

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency

    LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal/external customers and clients.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

    REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
