Office of the Secretary Information Technology Specialist- (Applications Software) in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary This vacancy is for an Information Technology Specialist- (Applications Software) in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Office of the Secretary (OS) within the Department of Commerce (DOC). In this position, you will provide oversight and systems administration supporting business applications for the agency. Responsibilities As an Information Technology Specialist- (Applications Software), you will perform the following duties: Serves as a point of contact for new initiatives on new and efficient applications technologies that improve and enhance efficiency, ease of use, productivity, and support to the Office of the Secretary (OS) and across the entire Agency. Reviews new or changing business requirements, incorporating these requirements into existing or planned applications. Recommends enhancements to automated systems to improve system response time for users. Develops proposals and keeps abreast of technological advances to ensure continued optimum service. Plans and coordinates the installation, testing, operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of applications and software to ensure the availability and functionality of systems supporting the OS. Assess, plan, design and request new and improved applications to meet users' needs. Provides customer support, technical assistance, systems advisory service, and training. Provides on-going technical advice and guidance to customers in the planning and use of applications software and a variety of other routine IT issues that impact the use, operation, and security for systems supporting the OS. Analyzes processes and problems relative to the design implementation of applications, and their supporting systems, and develops recommended corrective action. Develops and documents standard operating procedures for applications development, testing, and deployment and provides guidance to users and management. Recommends instructions for use, update, and enhancements of applications, and systems running or supporting the applications, and provides guidance and technical assistance in use, characteristics, and capabilities. Reviews and performs provisioning, testing and acceptance processes associated with cloud-based applications and services. Provides and manages application analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine and identify software and system functional requirement and specifications. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of IT-related specialized experience equivalent to the GS- 12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is described as: Designing or implementing new and improved cloud-based applications to meet business needs; and Planning, coordinating, and developing guidelines for the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of applications and software to ensure the availability and functionality of systems; and Provides technical advice and guidance to customers on information technology (IT) systems, application software, and functionality. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
