The Georgetown medical experience is centered in “cura personalis” – care for the psychological, spiritual, social as well as physical well being of the person. It lays the groundwork for the intellectual and ethical formation of physician healers committed to the clinically competent care of and the well being of their patients and dedicated to the health needs of the underserved in our society.

The Research Specialist IV works in the Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases Division at the University, providing data analysis and manuscript preparation services to MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS), funded by the NIH. The MWCCS is a collaborative research effort that aims to understand and reduce the impact of chronic health conditions—including heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders—that affect people living with HIV. The study is designed to investigate a spectrum of questions relating to the basic science, clinical science, and epidemiology of HIV infection in the U.S., with a focus on comorbidities among men and women living with HIV. Focusing on publishing papers based on results from the MWCCS research study, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with biomedical researchers in designing studies, analyzing data, and publishing results from research projects.

  • Possess advanced ability to manipulate, compute, and critically analyze data.

  • Perform at the highest level of professional competence and behavior, possesses broad and intensive specific knowledge and skills in data analysis.

  • Collaborate with senior research faculty and staff on complex research projects, and may lead a team of researchers on specific topics.

  • Serve on writing teams and design statistical analyses, reporting generation procedures for specific research studies.

  • Write statistical methods and results sections of reports and publications.

    Work Interactions

    This position interacts with internal and external investigators to develop research protocols, analytical plans, and writing papers. Also interacts with the research staff, study leadership locally, and nationally.

    Requirements and Qualifications

  • MD or PHD degree in Epidemiology, or Biostatistics

  • Experience of publishing papers

  • 5-6 years of experience in data analysis using statistical packages

  • Ability to work independently and in the team

  • Extensive experience with SAS. Experience in publishing in the HIV field preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
