Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service Staff Assistant in Washington, District Of Columbia
Summary This position is a Staff Assistant (Deputy Head of Staff), GS- 0301-13 working in Washington, D.C. for the R9-Director-U S Fish and Wildlife Service. This is a not-to-exceed one (1) year temporary promotion assignment. This temporary promotion may be extended without further competition; however, it may not exceed a total of five (5) years. This temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition. Responsibilities As a Staff Assistant (Deputy Head of Staff), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Works with the Chief of Staff to develop approaches and solutions to complex, politically sensitive, and high visibility issues that impact various functional areas of the Service and that have national, regional, state, and/or local consequences. Coordinates and manages activities associated with special projects assigned by senior level officials. Prepares briefing statements, event memos, and other documents in response to Departmental, Administration, and/or congressional inquiries and requests. Establishes and maintains working relationships and development of mutually beneficial program opportunities and partnerships with other agencies, organizations, and individuals. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Only experience and education obtained by 01/02/2025 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification [GS-13] One (1) full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: coordinating and supporting a wide variety of assignments for senior officials and staff that require special attention and may impact various functional areas of an agency; providing strategic advice to others on the application of policy and practices in the development and implementation of project assignments; communicating effectively orally and in writing to present information, provide advice to and negotiate with management, partners and other high-level officials; and collaborating with other agencies, organizations, and stakeholders to support strategic partnerships. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
