Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Experience

  • Four (4) years of technical work experience in Carpentry

Preferred

  • Some supervisory and or leadman experience preferred

Certification/Licensure

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's permit issued from the jurisdiction of residence

  • In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

Summary

The Supervisor, Craft Crew supports the inspection, repair renovation and construction of facilities throughout the Metro system. Specifically, the incumbent supervises the carpentry crews who perform roof repairs, renovation and construction of facilities throughout the Metro system. The work is technical in nature and involves experience in facilities maintenance and construction. The incumbent support a crews of other crafts (i.e. locksmithing, masonry, etc.) as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises employees in one or more locations/buildings. Supervises and developsschedulesforinspection,preventiveandcorrectivemaintenanceonarchitecturalsystems,including roofing at all WMATA facilities. Conducts daily toolbox meetings, develops jobspecific safety plans, performs safety audits and safety conversations. Participates as amember of a Local Safety Committee and performs incident investigations. Reviewsmaintenance processes and procedures from a safety perspective and recommendsimprovements.

  • Supervises subordinate staff, recommends applicant selection, disciplinary actions, andgrievanceresolution.Assignsduties,directswork,andapprovesleaverequestsandtimesheets. Performs on-site quality inspections and monitors work performed by contractorsandinternalstaff;ensurescompliancewithestablishedstandards.Actsassitesupervisoror coordinator to interact with and support other maintenance and operations functions.Analyzes work volume, staffing requirements and recommends measures to enhanceperformanceand productivity.

  • Trains employees using applicable technical data, tools, precision measuring equipment,specialequipment,testinstrumentation,correctivemaintenanceprogramsandprocedures.Providesinstructiononsafetyandenvironmentalrequirementsandmethodsto minimize at-risk behaviors, avoid injuries and property damage. Teaches techniquesforidentifyingandcorrectingsafetyhazards.Enforcescompliancewithpersonalprotectiveequipmentrequirements andthe roadwayworker protectionprogram.

  • Facilitatesthepurchasesofmaterials,partsandtools.Ensurestheirproperuse,careandsecurity.Complies withestablishedprocurement policiesand procedures.

  • Preparesandcompletesaccurateoral,written,andelectronicreportsanddocumentation;ensureseasyretrievalofinformation forstatisticalandmanagement purposes.

  • Supports severe weather and other emergency response efforts, provides immediatemaintenancesupport toprotect assets.

  • Attendsandpassestherequiredsafetytrainingclassesandmaintainscurrentknowledgeof industry best practices. Ensures subordinates attendance and facilitates their successon required training, ensure they maintain their required certifications and that theyperformassignmentsaccordingtoestablishedsafetypracticesandmaintenanceguidelines.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Accurately maintains the Authority’s Maintenance Management database.Enters workperformance data, monitors work orders and backlog, assesses equipment performancetrends,andpredicts future maintenancerequirements.
