Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Systems Administrator (Enterprise Applications) in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Enterprise Applications Manager.

The role can reside in the Dallas or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and as a member of the Enterprise Applications team, the Systems Administrator is in charge of ensuring that the firm’s mission-critical enterprise applications and related systems are available and properly functioning at all times. The Systems Administrator is in charge of playing an integral role in the daily operations, security, and maintenance of various enterprise applications to include Microsoft Exchange Online, Active Directory, Entra ID, and the NetDocuments document management system (DMS). The Systems Administrator is expected to perform all job functions with a commitment to providing excellent service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Systems Administration

  • Assist in the support and maintenance of Microsoft 365 services including but not limited to Entra ID, Exchange Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Assist in the support and maintenance of the NetDocuments DMS environment and associated sub-systems.

  • Perform system maintenance in accordance with established schedules and best practices.

  • Monitor, secure, identify and qualify system patches/updates for consideration.

  • Install, update and maintain supported systems as necessary.

  • Perform security audits, report findings, and take corrective action.

    Collaboration & Customer Service

  • Address tickets escalated from the Help Desk in a timely manner.

  • Assist the IT Operations teams to provide third-level support for assigned applications.

  • Assist as needed in the day-to-day maintenance of the systems supported by the Enterprise Systems team.

  • Contribute to written material as appropriate to IT standard operation procedures manual.

    Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • A 4-year college degree (preferred), however substantial experience can substitute for education

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in IT operations and preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment

  • Industry certifications a plus: CompTIA (A+, Security+, etc.), Microsoft (M365 Administrator, Entra ID Fundamentals, etc.)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, management and outside business partners

  • Technical background that demonstrates an aptitude to assist in the administration of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and content management systems, preferably NetDocuments as well as three or more of the following systems:

  • Exchange 2016 / Exchange Online

  • Email security solutions (Mimecast, Proofpoint)

  • Email archiving solutions (Exchange Online Archiving, Veritas)

  • Microsoft Server Operating Systems

  • PowerShell

  • Directory Services (Entre ID, ADFS)

  • Document Management Systems (iManage, NetDocuments)

  • Power Automate, Power Apps, OneDrive for Business

  • Enterprise Monitoring Solutions (SolarWinds, Azure ARC, etc.)

  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner

  • Proficient in managing Entra ID, including user and group management

  • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks

  • Strong research and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure, facilitate solutions and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high ethical standards and strict confidentiality of all information on the network
