Summary You will serve as a MUSEUM TECHNICIAN/SPECIALIST (HISTORY) in theNATIONAL MUSEUM. Responsibilities You will manage the processing and cataloging of Navy historic artifact collections, such as small arms, uniforms, edged weapons, artwork, memorabilia, and archival collections. You will enter artifact accession and catalog record information in computer databases. You will manage the maintenance and renewal of incoming and outgoing artifact loans. You will manage the overall handling of historic artifact collections. You will determine and recommend short-term and long-term storage requirements for objects of historical significance. You will research, write, and conduct educational museum tours for various audiences. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-09 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: 1.) Managing the maintenance and renewal of incoming and outgoing artifact loans; 2.) Performing acquisition, evaluation, registration, cataloging, preserving, packing, storage, retrieval, and shipping of artifacts; 3.) Utilizing computerized collections data management systems, methods, and procedures; and 4.) Conducting primary and secondary source historical research of American military history. GS-07 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: 1.) Assisting with the maintenance and renewal of incoming and outgoing artifact loans; 2.) Providing basic support with the storage, retrieval, and shipping of artifacts; 3.) Reviewing collection inventory records on a computerized program for consistency and accuracy with existing records; 4.) Education Education Substitution for Experience at the GS-09 Level: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience Education Substitution for Experience at the GS-07 Level: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement OR Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education leading to a master's degree; OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience Qualifying educational experience must include related coursework for the position. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.
