Northern Credit Union Fraud Prevention & Security Professional in Watertown, New York

Through Humble, Hungry, and People Smart attributes, the Fraud Prevention & Security Team is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, career minded individual that is dedicated to improving and protecting the financial and security wellbeing of the credit union, our members, their families, and communities. This professional is responsible for proactively educating and raising awareness for best practices to internal and external owners to balance fraud and security risk with safe and sound banking practices. This professional is also responsible for investigating fraud cases, security situations and recommending risk management activities to minimize loss to the credit union and members in support of Northern’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.Job Responsibilities:Proactively serves as a role model and demonstrates individual commitment to Northern’s Ownership philosophy by:Exhibiting high energy, a positive attitude, creativity, and passion for member experience. Maintaining an active, positive, professional image and reputation for Northern in the community while spreading the Ownership philosophy internally and externally.Engaging in the recommendation of enhancements further promoting Northern’s Culture and the Standard of Excellence for member experience.Keeping open communication alive by inspiring owner participation on teams, listening to owner ideas, holding meetings, and publishing regular performance and educational announcements.Effectively ensures the protection of Credit Union assets and minimizes risk for Members and the Credit Union:Through investigation and analysis:Reviews reports and investigates fraudulent activity relating to payment services including ACH/Wires, Bill Pay, debit cards, account transactions, online/mobile banking, fraudulent checks, loans, new accounts, and other economic criminal activities to identify common points of compromise and trends to help identify and prevent future fraudulent transactions.Reviews and analysis escalated high-risk situations regarding potentially fraudulent activity through Verafin for accounts, debit cards, online and mobile banking and provides guidance with appropriate actions to suspected fraudulent situations.Conducts internal fraud investigations and documents risk management activities through interviewing impacted members, witnesses, and internal owners as well as reporting findings and recommendations for further action to resolve.At the earliest report of potential fraud or loss, takes necessary action to minimize loss to the credit union and members.Maintains focus and perspective while handling fraud and security inquiries and escalations, even during difficult situations.Fosters relationships with other credit union contacts to learn, share, and implement best practices related to fraud prevention and security.Training and Development Effectiveness:Partners with the Career Development and Owner Engagement and department leadership teams to assist with fraud prevention and security training programs to ensure up-to-date information is shared with all internal owners.Proactively provides education and awareness for internal and external owners to assist in fraud prevention.Assist in creating and conducting workshops to enhance fraud prevention within Northern communities. Serves as a subject matter expert to internal and external owners with general questions or concerns about fraud and security investigations as well as assisting members who have been impacted by fraud while following established policies and procedures aligning with Credit Union guidelines.Operational Soundness and Efficiency:Communicates with the Director of Owner Solutions and Fraud Prevention and Northern’s Security Officer in a timely manner, all fraud and security situations being handled, especially those that may result in a loss to the Credit Union.Prepares necessary documentation to track fraud cases including cases and charge of reports, entries, recovery payments and law enforcement referrals.Partners with internal departments in fraud situations by gathering information, writing reports, filing cases with law enforcement, assisting with bond claims and maintaining files. Keeps all credit Union transactions in strict confidence.Other Job Functions:Through Ownership Pride, promotes Northern's Core Values throughout the organization. Promotes teamwork within the Credit Union and actively seeks solutions to issues related to member and internal owner expectations.Actively participates in other Credit Union duties, functions, committees, and events as may be reasonably requested, or on a volunteer basis.Provides informed, prompt, professional and accurate communication, service and support to all members and internal owners.Establishes and maintains professional business relationships with internal and external members, partners, association groups, service vendors, and other parties as necessary and appropriate in support of Credit Union programs.Maintains and applies a working knowledge of our products and services offered state and federal regulations pertaining to fraud prevention and security functions and credit union policies and guidelines.Participates in the Credit Union’s future by offering constructive suggestions that may attract new members and/or enhance product penetration.Continually identifies and participates in educational programs such as Cornerstone online training resources, schools and/or conferences to develop greater knowledge and expertise in member service. Takes initiative for personal career development and seeks opportunities to learn new skills.Hybrid work environment and occasional travel to corporate office is required.Flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays as necessary to meet established member service standards and goals.All other duties as assignedRequirementsAssociates degree from accredited college or university with a specialized course study at a business or trade school is required.2+ years’ experience in a similar or related position is required.Must be a persuasive communicator with excellent command of verbal and written presentations. Clear communication with internal and external customers through verbal and written correspondence is required along with the ability to effectively develop. motivate, and inspire people in one-on-one and in group situations is essential.Strong problem resolution and assertive communication skills in effectively dealing with members, external vendors, leaders, and internal owners.The position requires confident leadership abilities. This individual will be instrumental in maintaining effective teamwork among both peers and direct reports.A significant level of diplomacy, trust, and credibility is required with a proven ability to work under pressure and remain calm in tense situations with internal and external members and vendors.Exhibits a professional level of self-direction and autonomy for time management and producing sound decisions by analyzing the situation and/or providing data based on the decision made. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to work within a team while working independently.Ability to multi-task and move quickly between priorities. Exact offers will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
