Generac Power Systems Senior Electrical Engineer in Waukesha, Wisconsin

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be directly involved in the overall development and validation of Portable Energy Storage and Portable Generator products including power converters, power electronics, control interface modules, and battery modules. The incumbent will drive component and system level validation, perform root cause analysis, and develop and implement solutions for any issues identified during the validation process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical skills in Generac’s portable power storage and conversion architecture and serve as an internal expert.

  • Apply engineering knowledge and experience to improve systems, products, and/or processes.

  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during the development process, testing, manufacturing process, and/or field.

  • Develop and implement design modifications to support the launch of new product features, harden products, reduce cost, or improve manufacturability.

  • Support the development of product design requirements, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.

  • Develop Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA’s, and provide recommendations during Design Reviews.

  • Drive the resolution of technical issues and escalate significant issues to engineering leadership.

  • Support new technology and product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).

  • Conduct electrical simulations and analysis to evaluate system performance and identify potential areas for improvement.

  • Oversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and validation, making necessary design adjustments to meet functional, performance, and safety requirements.

  • Stay up to date with evolving industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to power electronics, electrical systems, energy generation and storage systems.

  • Create, design, and develop test specifications for new systems and firmware/software.

  • Troubleshoot designs to the component level.

  • Collaborate with other engineers, internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize complex designs.

  • Create and maintain Statements of Requirements (SOR), schematics, and BOMs

  • Mentor and teach less experienced engineers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Experience with PCBA design, fabrication, and manufacturing.

  • Hands on experience running tests on complex electronic components and/or systems including the use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other various electronic test equipment/meters.

  • Experience developing component and/or system level test plans, test procedures, and test reports.

  • Proficiency in development of firmware for the purpose of technology evaluations/investigations.

  • Experience in electrical design software and simulation tools.

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
