WAUSHARA COUNTY Deputy Medical Examiner in WAUTOMA, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Waushara County is currently accepting applications for a part-time (on-call) Deputy Medical Examiner, able to work a minimum of two 24 hour shifts per week. Under the general supervision of the Waushara County Medical Examiner, this position investigates and reports on the cause and manner of deaths including the gathering of physical evidence, interviewing, assisting in post-mortem examinations; determines if a case falls under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner Office; and performs related work as required. Requires an Associate degree in paramedic, nursing, biology, medicine, pre-med, forensic science or criminal justice or closely related field and minimum of two years of medical investigative experience. Competitive wage, may qualify for health insurance under federal requirements but is not eligible for other county benefits. Investigates deaths in accordance with Wisconsin State Statues, including evaluating death scenes, examining and preserving evidence, investigating the circumstances of death by obtaining personal data and medical history through records and interviews; and establishes initial assessment of cause and manner of death, as natural, suicidal, accidental, homicidal or undetermined. 2. Determines need for autopsy, toxicology, radiology, etc.; involvement from other agencies/departments such as law enforcement/detective, crime lab, District Attorney, pathologist, etc.; obtains appropriate records from law enforcement, heath care establishments, etc. to coordinate a comprehensive, multidisciplinary investigation. 3. Prepares and maintains reports documenting the facts and findings of all death investigations and other activities pertinent to the investigation. 4. Determines positive identification of the decedent. 5. Collects, maintains and disposes of evidence; obtains bodily specimens; maintains and sorts records and documents; maintains, sorts and reviews photographs; prepares presentations and slides. 6. Attends training meetings and seminars; participates in task forces and review teams; maintains current training, in-service seminars and public speaking as needed. 7. Provides court testimony as needed. 8. Prepares and provides cremation authorizations, disinterment permits and death certificates. Prepares and submits reports, documentation and correspondence including medical examiner\'s reports, traffic fatality reports, statistics, firearm death reports, etc. 9. Answers family questions and concerns regarding deceased. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two years of medical investigative experience. Combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities may be considered. Approved training in death investigation must be completed within one year of job commencement. Ability to obtain American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) board certification.
