Gun Lake Casino F&B Host/Cashier in Wayland, Michigan

Position Summary:

The F&B Host/Cashier is responsible for providing AAA 4-Diamond customer service while serving food and beverages to guests. You must be courteous and efficiently interact with Guests to ensure their satisfaction when they first arrive as well as while they are dining, in accordance with all Company standards, procedures, and policies. The incumbent is expected to handle tendering transactions accurately and efficiently and consistently completing the steps of service according to department standards, all while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

In this Role:

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude, ensuring positive guest interactions by always demonstrating Gun Lake Casino Resort’s AAA 4-Diamond service standards.

  • Follow the 7 Steps of Service as outlined by the F&B Department to ensure guest satisfaction and consistently high secret-shop scores.

  • Responsible for practicing, supporting, and promoting Gun Lake Casino Resort’s “Unsurpassed Service” standards at all times.

  • Have complete knowledge of all food and beverage menu items including their preparation, ingredients, cooking methods, portions, and prices. This includes all bakery/deli case items.

  • Be aware of activities in the dining room, including, but not limited to, the service standards of bussing tables, station assignments, special functions, the presence of executives, and the availability of particular items.

  • Ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the restaurant by alerting management of any guest opportunities, including, but not limited to, service opportunities, food quality issues, and any guest experience flaws (temperature, lights, etc.).

  • Ensure proper service by being aware of the business volume and capacity as well as identifying guest opportunities in advance and addressing them with both the guest and the server immediately and assisting in any way possible.

  • Maintain “Unsurpassed Service” personal grooming and uniform standards pursuant to the Company’s policies.

  • Greet and seat guests pleasantly, quickly, and efficiently in an “Unsurpassed Service” manner.

  • Take names for a wait and coordinate accurate wait times to ensure guest service.

  • Monitor the door at all times to ensure friendly greetings and prompt seating of guests.

  • Ensure Team Member safety by being alert and identifying any safety hazards both in the restaurant and in the immediate vicinity on the casino floor and notifying management or appropriate personnel immediately.

  • Have knowledge of all service employees’ responsibilities, including, but not limited to the food servers, bussers, and room runners.

  • Ring in carry-out and food cart orders for Team Members and Guests and ensure that all orders have all necessary items for accuracy.

  • Responsible for promoting, selling, and upselling items in grab-and-go and portable food cart operations.

  • Remove debris (napkins, straws, etc.) from the floor as necessary.

  • Practice and observe safety rules and regulations and encourage others to do so. Comply with Board of Health Standards.

  • Inform the immediate supervisor of any product shortages and equipment needs.

  • Assist in bussing and/or resetting tables.

  • Have detailed knowledge of the resort and its amenities.

  • Run cash register and handle money.

  • Responsible for register bank and all money, charges, and comps collected during a shift.

  • Follow proper transaction settlement procedures.

  • Must maintain accurate cash handling and blind drop procedures when using a cash bank in accordance with department policies.

  • Serve alcohol responsibly in accordance with Alcohol Awareness training.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be at 18+ years of age.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • One (1) year of prior experience preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume environment while maintaining proper portion control, safety, health, and service standards.

  • Must have cash handling experience; responsible for all transactions in a Casino environment.

  • Have knowledge of all methods of check tendering (cash, comp, coupon, credit card, points, gift certificates, etc.).

  • Must be willing and able to participate in ongoing training.

  • Must hold/maintain certification with handling (ServSafe) and Alcohol Awareness (TIPS) and the ability to gain/maintain training requirements from both programs. If not already certified, training will be provided.

  • Must manage time effectively with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, Team Members, and management in both written and verbal form.

  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and mature decision-making.

  • Adhere to all company and department policies and procedures as well as all Beyond the Best practices.

  • Must be able to handle a flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.

  • Ability to read, write, and input data into the computer.

  • Must have the manual dexterity to operate job-related equipment.

  • Must have the ability to access all properties and areas.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, push up to 250 pounds on a push cart, and enter walk-ins of between -10 to 40 degrees without assistance.

  • Ability to stand for the duration of their shift.

Work Conditions:

Work is typically on the casino floor. Work areas may be warm, cold, or noisy and may contain second-hand smoke. Tasks may be required to be performed from a sitting or non-sitting position in a confined area. Team Members may be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull, and grasp.
