Operations Research Internship:

In this internship you will have the opportunity to work with the Engineering and Data Sciences function, which is one of Cargill's corporate research groups. This is a fast-paced, growing area within Cargill, and impacts the full range of Cargill's operations - from grain and oilseed processing to renewable polymers and novel food ingredients. Our scope includes projects from conception through process definition and plant start up to optimization of operating facilities for both Cargill and our customers. We have a diverse range of talents in the simulation space with expertise in advanced control, process simulation, linear programming, statistics, numerical methods, and more.

The Engineering and Data Sciences function at Cargill will provide students with a graduate engineering background, the opportunity to apply knowledge in an industrial setting. The internship program is designed to provide students with appropriate projects that bring value to Cargill .

We are looking for additional highly skilled engineers who are enthusiastic about tackling non-traditional simulation, supply chain, and data analysis projects.

Your Work:

You will be assigned to one or two core projects that will be substantive in nature. You will be the primary technical contributor for work on the project, with leadership support from the Engineering and Data Sciences team. Interns will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain immediate hands-on work experience in one of the world’s largest agribusiness companies.

  • Receive periodic and candid feedback on job performance.

Internship details:

  • Internships are typically 12 weeks in duration.

  • Interns are paid hourly for time worked.

  • Interns are responsible for transportation to and from work.

Compensation:

The expected hourly rate for this position is $27.00 - $30.00. Compensation decisions are dependent on grad date and eligibility for full-time employment.

Job Locations:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Math, Engineering or related field, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later

  • Able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer (May/June - August 2025)

  • Willing and able to relocation to Wayzata, MN for this internship opportunity

  • Proven ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures

  • High degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in industries with continuous processing (food, chemicals)

  • Experience with discrete event simulation or agent-based simulation software (e.g., AnyLogic, FlexSim)

  • Experience developing and solving optimization models with Algebraic Modeling Languages (AIMMS, GAMS, AMPL), commercial solvers (CPLEX, Gurobi), and/or Optimization Platforms (Supply Chain Guru, SAP APO)

  • Experience with one or more programming languages (Python, Java, R, etc.)

  • Experience in gathering, cleaning, and analyzing data using statistical methods

  • 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale is preferred
