This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight. At Blue Origin, risk management is not an administrative job. This is a system-level engineering position where risk managers are expected to develop highly technical understanding of our engines, the vehicles they power, and the programmatic strategy being employed to develop and field these systems. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will lead risk and opportunity management for an engine program, maximizing our chances of rapidly developing innovative and safe propulsion systems. You will also own Engines Business Unit level risks (i.e., highly impactful risks that impact more than one engine program). Working closely with a small team of systems engineering risk managers, you will set high standards for risk and opportunity management, improving our approach, processes, tools, and training. As a risk management leader, you will foster a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management within the organization, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing among team members. Through daily interaction with engineering and program management teams, you'll facilitate risk discussions to help teams identify the heart of each risk, drive development of effective mitigation plans, and ensure transparency in decision-making. Risk managers help programs proactively adapt their plans to achieve better outcomes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead the development and implementation of risk-informed decision-making processes across the organization to drive ongoing strategic program planning Manage risks and opportunities at the program and business unit level Lead risk development sessions with small teams and lead program-level risk decision meetings Ensure extremely high-quality information and data is documented in each risk Develop filters and dashboards using JIRA & Confluence to inform priority and need for action Analyze and report on trends and patterns in risk and opportunity management data to inform and support continuous process and tools improvement Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies for risk and opportunity management to enhance efficiency and effectiveness Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to share best practices and ensure the risk process provides our high-value to our teams Conduct regular risk and opportunity management training sessions for engineering and program management teams to enhance their understanding and proficiency in these areas Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant technical field 10+ years of system development/integration experience, preferably in aerospace or complicated technical systems, including some aspect of new product development A track record of successful risk management in complex, high-profile aerospace projects, demonstrating the ability to drive strategic risk decisions and achieve favorable outcomes Expertise in risk management standards, methodologies, and state-of-the-art tools Strong understanding of engineering principles, particularly in the context of spaceflight applications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, identify potential risks and opportunities, and develop eff
