Job Description

The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Coach/Resident Advisor is responsible for assisting with all aspects of SCC’s NJCAA Division I Wrestling Program including practices, matches, travel, fundraising, and recruiting, and any other duties related to the wrestling program.

This position will also be responsible for supervising student athletes in the residence halls.

This position is a .8 FTE professional services position (208 work days per year) with a starting salary of $18,000 per year plus fully-paid room and board.

The position also includes pro-rated SCC benefits – including medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, sick leave, vacation, discretionary leave, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

Terms of employment are per the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

The position will uphold college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. The incumbent is expected to actively promote a positive image for the college district and support SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.

Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities

  • Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy, related Iowa Code, and the ICCAC & NJCAA policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the monitoring of student-athlete academic progress.

  • Collaborate with the head coach in:

o Planning and implementation of daily practice and match situations.

o Recruiting and retaining student-athletes to fill the team’s rosters from outside the general

student body and meet program numbers as assigned by the Athletic Director o Establishing fundraising opportunities and securing additional program funding o Assist the Head Coach in implementing a comprehensive plan for student-athletes to develop their skills, through weight training, conditioning and practice o Assist the Head Coach in gathering necessary documentation for completion of NJCAA eligibility o Transportation details – Drive and/or supervise school vehicles for recruiting and team travel. o Evaluation of prospective student-athletes. o Internal and community relations and any activities to enhance the overall image of the wrestling program o Maintaining discipline and enforcing and encouraging acceptable behavior as expected through SCC’s conduct and academic guidelines
  • Develop and facilitate recruiting materials and communications for prospective student-athletes

  • Understand that weekends will be required as well as some flexibility in early or late hours

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director

    Required Qualifications

  • Education:

o Associate’s Degree required.

o Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Experience in:

o Demonstrated knowledge and experience in wrestling. Coaching high school or college wrestling or college wrestling experience required. Preference given to college level coaching experience.

  • Strong human relations and interpersonal oral & written communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of computer software applications specifically Microsoft Office programs; ability to learn and develop competency in SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian).

  • Ability to:

o Work effectively with students, colleagues, and community, and to assist the athleticdepartment in general.

o Handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and

professional integrity and ethics.

o Comprehend and abide by NJCAA , ICCAC , and SCC policies, guidelines, and procedures.

o Learn how to use and upload match film and stats.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
