Description:

  • Reviews medical records and obtains other pertinent information prior to office visit from hospitals and referring physicians’ offices.

  • Prepares patient for exam and facilitates patient flow.

  • Adaptability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co‑workers, patients and visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a medical work environment.

LPN

  • Demonstrates ability to recognize and assess urgent/emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.

  • Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines.

  • Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family.

  • Follows clinic procedure/protocol for the organization and management of the electronic medical record (i.e. test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair, charging of electronic medical record).

  • Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instruc­tions.

  • Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned (i.e., tympanometry, spirometry, etc.).

  • Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, pro­cedures and medications administered.

  • Accurately and legibly documents all patient interactions in electronic medical record.

  • Reports results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.

  • Functions according to limitations or scope of license or certification.

  • Performs basic nursing functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, immunizations, medication injections, etc.), under direction and supervision of provider.

  • Maintains professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).

  • Valid Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per state law.

  • Cardiovascular Medical Terminology class completion within 1 year of hire.

LPN:

  • Current LPN license issued by the State of Iowa

  • Clinic/physician office experience preferred

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.
