Job Summary:

After initial training, the employee will be capable of performing surface figure evaluation testing of production molded glass lenses. This individual must be able to set up and operate a variety of interferometers and surface profilometers. Measurements are detailed and critical in nature as they are used to verify production processes real time. Analyzes and maintains the information through the use of computer programs and input skills. This individual may also perform a variety of duties such as checking measurement device calibration, index matching and correlation of data for quality reports. This will require the flexibility to work occasional overtime as required.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Performs daily testing of aspheric production lenses, initial design tryouts on new tools and first run production jobs using Taylor Hobsen and OptiTrace surface profilometers.

  • Spherical measurements will be performed on a Zygo MetroCell interferometer.

  • Collimation lenses will be tested using a transmitted wavefront analysis system.

  • Works with a minimum of supervision, and monitors work of, and instructs less experienced individuals.

  • Required to record all measurements electronically and maintain accurate records.

  • May provide relief for operators/set ups during break and lunch periods.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Certification or degree in optical metrology a plus, but not required.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
