WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Edge of Appalachia (EOA) Land Steward is a 9-month, full-time, short-term position based out of the EOA field office just east of West Union, OH in Adams County. This position is part of a 3-person team, working in collaboration with permanent EOA staff, to advance the preserve's management, stewardship, and restoration goals. Work activities will be overseen and directed by the Appalachian Forest Manager, through frequent, but not daily, interactions. Land Stewards will be responsible for a variety of land management activities as well as associated equipment preparation, use, and maintenance; use of GPS unit and related devices; accurate record keeping; and other responsibilities as assigned. In addition to work at EOA, Land Stewards may infrequently work at one of TNC's other southern Ohio preserves. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances, including on prescribed fires. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

High school diploma or GED and 1 year's training in science-related field or related experience in land management

Experience working as part of a team.

Experience making informed decisions and problem solving

Ability to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, pesticide applicator license).

Capacity to perform physical work, often under adverse conditions or inclement weather.

Must be qualified, or be able to become qualified, as a Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Train
