Trane is currently seeking a Commercial HVAC Apprentice in the Portland, Maine area.

As an Apprentice, you’ll be paired with dedicated mentors who will help you learn everything you need to know about the HVAC industry. This is a National Department of Labor Certification Apprenticeship program.

As you advance through the program, you will receive regular pay increases. Upon completion, you’ll be awarded with a National Certification and be promoted to a HVAC Service Technician.

The Trane Commercial HVAC Apprenticeship Program is a 4-year, nationally accredited through the Department of Labor to include 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and over 140 hours of technical instruction per year .

  • Earn a full-time wage, working in the field while enrolled in the program

  • Receive a raise every 6 months after a performance review and competency evaluation

What you’ll be doing:

This apprentice program is designed to take you from beginner to a skilled professional in the HVAC industry.

  1. Year One: You’ll learn all about the trade, tools, and safety. Think of this like your introduction to the industry – an HVAC 101 course. Your learnings will include things like power tools, rigging, heating and cooling, air distribution and brazing / soldering skills.

  2. Year Two: You’ll advance deeper into world of air flow applying your introduction skills in new ways. Your learnings will include things like compressors, metering devices, duct systems, air quality equipment and hydronics.

  3. Year Three: You’ll take your skills to the next level implementing new problem-solving techniques and troubleshooting abilities. Your learnings will include things like electrical terminations, troubleshooting, variable refrigeration flow, steam, and commercial refrigeration.

  4. Year Four: Your learnings will include things like fundamentals of crew leadership, energy conservation, air balancing, system design and specifications, industrial refrigeration systems, and specialized HVAC configurations. You’ll round out your education combining all your experiences so far and graduate to start your career as a Trane Service Technician.

What you bring to the table:

  • No Industry Experience Required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age when you start on day 1

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations in the last 3 years

  • A strong desire to learn a trade and directly impact the world around you

Base Pay Range is: $22- 28/ hour

***Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.

Additional Requirements and Environmental Exposure:

· Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt

· Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties

· Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction

· Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands

· Must be able to reach your hands over your head

· Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours

· This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs.

· Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 350 lb. total weight limit, while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less

· Must be able to maneuver confined access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal

· Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet · This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location
