Position Overview

This position will report to a Lead Estimator and will be responsible for estimating functions and associated workflows in a team environment.

District Overview

Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility, concrete structures, retaining walls, and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for experienced individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry.

Westlake, TX (DFW area).

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and interpret contract documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed and comprehensive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.

  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete work, underground piping, drainage, and other related projects.

  • Identify bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions along with quantities and pricing.

  • Ensure estimates and proposals are performed in accordance with company practices and standards.

  • Participate in estimate reviews and presentations with estimating manager and other department leads.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the pre-bid process, including solicitation of bids and constructability input.

  • Manage comparisons between self-perform estimates and subcontractor quotes.

  • Analyze subcontractor and material quotes for responsiveness to the estimate and project requirements.

  • Prepare value engineering solutions including cost, schedule, and owner benefits.

  • Prepare responses to requests for qualifications (RFQ's) and requests for proposals (RFP's).

  • Provide rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates and phasing schedules.

  • Research and utilize applicable cost benchmarking data from historical Kiewit projects into current estimates.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or construction management with an emphasis on civil, structural, drafting, or a related field is preferred.

  • 5 years of experience in construction/estimating, preferably on heavy civil related construction projects.

  • Strong background in excel and construction estimating software, Hard Dollar (now InEight Estimate) is preferred.

  • Basic working knowledge of earthwork takeoff software such as Trimble Business Center or AgTek preferred.

  • Proficient in PDF software such as BlueBeam. Basic knowledge of 2D CAD software such as MicroStation is preferred.

  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, organization, verbal and written communication skills, and excellent leadership skills.

  • Can travel occasionally and accomplish goals/deadlines both independently and in collaboration with teams.

  • Work as a part of a large or small pursuit team and communicate effectively between departments and other staff members.
