Job Description:

This leadership position actively promotes and develops actions to fulfill Tri-State’s mission to provide Member Systems with a reliable, cost-based supply of electricity while maintaining a sound financial position through effective utilization of human, capital and physical resources in accordance with cooperative principles. This includes but is not limited to the development, implementation, support, products, programs, services, and reporting on department functions and activities.

Member Relations Manager

Hiring Salary Range: $124,000-168,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide conduit for communication, products, and services between Tri-State and its Member Systems.

  • Provide member services programs as well as technical support.

  • Provide assistance with the implementation of Tri-State's demand response , electrification, and energy efficiency products and services.

  • Make on-site visits to Member Systems to assist them with Tri-State products, services, and programs or other events.

  • Lead the development, promotion, implementation, training, and support of the various components of a comprehensive member relations program.

  • Lead the Relationship Managers in providing technical support to the Member Systems on new energy end-use technology, rebates, and products.

  • Contact Member Systems and meet on a regular basis and establish relationships with them and their designated key personnel. Establish their preferred method of communication and make on-site visits to assist them with Tri-State products, services, and programs or other events. Before and after member meetings, develop pre- and post-meeting reports with clearly defined objectives and required follow-up action items. Prepare a variety of reports and assist in the preparation of functional area reports and presentations.

  • Coordinate interactions between Tri-State staff and respective Member Systems as necessary to assure a timely response to Member System requests.

  • Assist Member Systems in developing materials and workshops for their member-owners, as well as their employees, on Tri-State product, service and program offerings as requested.

  • Assist with the development and design of Member System based products, services, and programs that create additional value for Tri-State’s Member Systems.

  • Provide assistance and support to Member Systems regarding the Meter Data Management System (MDMS) access, information inquiries and reports.

  • Provide assistance and support to Member Systems regarding the Member Load Graph access, information inquiries and reports.

  • Provide assistance and support to Member Systems regarding the Member Information Center (MIC) access, inquiries, and data entry.

  • Attend respective Member Systems annual meetings, regional industry meetings and member Manager meetings.

  • Monitor and maintain awareness of current wholesale rate structure issues and the effects on Member Systems.

  • Participate in special projects at Tri-State which may be internal only projects or may involve or include one or all Member Systems. Participate in ad hoc analytical requests, performs analysis of business opportunities and quantitative assessment of load and resource options.

  • Represent Tri-State on various internal and external committees.

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.

  • Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job

  • Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Ensure 100% compliance with all laws, rules, regulations, and requirements in functional areas. Ensures that established business processes are captured and maintained as part of Tri-State’s Policies, Programs and Procedures (PP&P) strategy.

  • Ensures that training and development needs for each employee have been identified and that adequate learning opportunities are provided. Ensures that employees provide coaching and mentoring opportunities as appropriate.

  • Ensures that team and individual employee execution is evaluated against established goals and objectives for all accountabilities. Ensures that delegated functions effectively forecast work and resource needs, including human, capital, and physical resources, and recommends annual budgets to meet goals and objectives aligned to support enterprise strategies, goals, and objectives. Actively monitors performance against budget, identifies variances, and back casts against forecasts to identify and learn from error.

Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • The nature of this position requires a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communication, Marketing, Finance, or related area of study, or equivalent experience gained through progressively greater responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of industry trends and best practices to establish and refine norms for program performance and execution through advanced training, participation/speaking in content area conferences and seminars, and publication of internal and external materials.

  • Demonstrates the ability to appropriately balance efficiency and effectiveness in overseeing programs and managing costs. Fosters a culture of cost containment within delegated functions and establishes accountabilities to ensure goals and objectives are achieved within established parameters.

  • Understands and practices shared responsibility with peers and colleagues for enterprise success, accepts accountability in all areas where answerable for the activity or decision, and where appropriate assigns/establishes responsibility to others in the enterprise to ensure program execution and delivery.

  • Proficient analytical, quantitative, and economic evaluation skills.

  • Ability to conceptualize, develop and implement programs designed to assist Member Systems promote the efficient use of electric service to residential and/or commercial customers and increase market share in areas and products of interest.

  • Ability to research and assemble information, and assimilate, analyze, interpret, and present data to various audiences including all levels of management.

  • Working knowledge of power generation technology, wholesale power markets, reliability standards, environmental regulation, and market design.

  • Working knowledge of utility operating practices.

  • Familiarity with retail rates and rate setting philosophies.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communicating with a wide range of individuals and groups both internally and externally.

  • Willingness to travel as required for training and meetings within and outside the service territory. (Must possess a valid driver’s license.)
