Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Pharmacy Technician, Materials Management in Weymouth, Massachusetts
The Pharmacy Department at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute places emphasis on the values of reliability, professionalism, cooperation, teamwork, communication, positivity and inclusiveness. The Pharmacy Technician III, Materials Management is responsible for providing support to pharmacy operations under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
The Pharmacy Technician III, Materials Management will staff in Pharmacy locations/areas as required. Additional responsibilities may include conducting training and orientation of staff members in any area and providing ongoing support and mentorship to more junior staff. The Pharmacy Technician III, Materials Management will lead one special project per year.
This position’s work location is onsite, full-time on campus in Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health .

Pharmacy Technician Duties:
Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standards.
Utilizes multiple systems such as EHR (Electronic Health Record), Inventory Management Systems, Medication storage equipment, and other systems to complete and document duties. Identify issues, troubleshoot and triage as necessary.
Maintains the Pharmacy inventory: receiving, sorting, stocking, replenishment rotation of stock and expiration date checking, and assessment of par-levels.
Performs and documents quality control steps as required for safety and regulatory requirements (e.g. cycle counting, outdated meds, etc.).
Conducts the training and orientation of staff members in any area.
Communicates and escalates issues or problems.
Provides ongoing support and mentorship to more junior staff.
Creates and/or revises training documentation for staff education.
May be assigned to cross-cover other locations or areas (e.g. processing room, outpatient, etc.).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Materials Management Technician Duties:
Receive orders from DFCI vendors and/or sponsors following established procedures including quality control steps to ensure proper entry of data in pharmacy systems.
Transport inventory and supplies as necessary to storage locations daily.
Leads one special project per year.
Provides support as necessary for Research pharmacy by receiving and tracking packages, and welcoming on-site vendors.
Participates in physical inventory every six months.
Participate in invoice reconciliation process for financial month-end .
Maintains and supports Automated Dispensing cabinets.
Stocking emergency medication as appropriate by site.
Provide materials management support for satellite locations as necessary (e.g., receiving issues, drug shortage management, NDC maintenance, etc.).
May be asked to provide cross-location coverage (Chestnut Hill, Longwood, Satellites) if needed.
Serves as super user for drug storage automation, and the pharmacy inventory system.
Minimum Education:
High School graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level degree program for Pharmacy or related field.
Minimum Experience:
5 years of pharmacy technician experience, with at least 2 years of experience of compounding, outpatient/retail, or inventory management experience.
License/Certification/Registration:
Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as a Pharmacy Technician. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) required. With ExCPT certification PTCB must be obtained within 1 year of hire date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to utilize pharmacy technology systems and Microsoft Suite of programs. (intermediate Excel and Visio).
Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution or escalation to the appropriate resource.
Ability to treat all others (fellow pharmacy staff, patients, nurses, providers, support personnel, etc.) with the utmost professionalism and respect.
Ability to effectively work within a collaborative team-focused environment.
Participate in department meetings and functions to promote a successful and efficient pharmacy workgroup.
Ability to train and orient new staff.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills (ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgment).
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to adjust work time and schedule to meet daily demands in fast-paced environment.
Able to lift large boxes and delivery packages, as much as: 30 lbs.
