Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. The National Guard is the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States. Responsibilities Position Description # D0487000 This position is located in an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or an Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA). The purpose of the position is to assist a higher grade mechanic in accomplishing maintenance and repair of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Description of Duties: (1) Accomplishes a variety of repairs on military aircraft. Repair work includes removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts, accessories and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, and gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines, worn cable pulleys, frayed sparkplug cables, and burned-out landing lights. Makes adjustments and settings such as cable tension, seat travel and other connections. Locates worn, dirty or poorly adjusted parts or components through visual check. Uses common hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers to complete repair work. (2) Assists a higher-grade mechanic in completing more complicated and detailed repair work. This would include removing and installing engines, rotor heads, transmissions, etc. Assists in making adjustments to controls, cable riggings, rudder pedals, etc. (3) Assists in performing functional checks and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include daily inspections, pre and post flight checks, fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, etc. Inspects for oil, fuel or hydraulic leaks, cut or broke lines, loose panels, etc. Services aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, etc. Launches and recovers aircraft. (4) May be required to perform such additional duties as firefighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. (5) Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MINIMUM MILITARY GRADE: E-2 MAXIMUM MILITARY GRADE: E-6 Your rank MUST be included somewhere within your resume. All personnel applying for this position who do not meet the minimum military grade requirement MUST provide the proper signed memorandum from your respective Military Personnel Office (MILPO for ARNG, FSS for ANG) to prove eligibility to obtain the required grade upon accepting the position. All personnel who exceed the maximum military rank must provide a memorandum explaining if selected for this position, you will accept an administrative reduction in rank. The memorandum must be submitted WITH your application to be considered for this position. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. Education IF THERE ARE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS ADD THEM HERE; IF NO EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS PUT: There are no educational requirements for this position. Additional Information APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This is an Indefinite Excepted Service position. Employment can be terminated with a 30-day notice without cause. This position is authorized to be filled as long as there are funds to support it. In the event a permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) employee is selected, and is willing to accept the indefinite appointment, that employee will relinquish permanent status. Permanent Change of Station: PCS funds are not available for this position. Incentives: Relocation and Recruitment Incentives may be authorized for this position. All WVNG positions are pending availability of resources and funds. DEFINITION FOR AREAS OF CONSIDERATION Area 1: Current On-board Title 5 Employees and Title 32 Technicians (Tenure: 1- Permanent, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) and Permanent AGR's in the West Virginia National Guard. Area 2: WVNG Army M-Day and Air Force DSG (Drill-Status Guardsmen,) Temporary Title 32 Technicians and Title 5 Employees, Temporary AGR (OTOT), and national guardsmen serving on Full-time National Guard Duty - Operational Support Orders (ADOS). Area 3: Current On-board Federal Employees (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) from another Federal Agency nationwide. Area 4: Federal re-employable eligible employees, National Guardsmen outside of the WVNG, and U.S Citizens willing to join the West Virginia National Guard as a condition of employment. Area 5: All U.S. Citizens.
