Distinguishing Features of Work
As the Sewer Treatment Operations Manager, youll take on a pivotal leadership role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and safe operation of multiple sewage treatment plants. In this highly responsible and dynamic position, youll oversee daily operational, mechanical, and custodial activities, making critical decisions that directly impact the success of plant operations. Youll lead a dedicated team, assigning and reviewing their work, troubleshooting complex challenges, and optimizing processes to ensure top-tier wastewater treatment. Youll also play a pivotal role in design and construction activities, ensuring that projects align with the operational needs of the treatment plants.
In addition to managing the team, youll play a key role in overseeing the biosolids land application program, monitoring biological and chemical processes, and driving operational improvements. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with others, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while constantly seeking innovative ways to enhance plant performance. Success in this role is measured by the achievement of goals and consistent, high-level plant efficiency. Youll also play a pivotal role in design and construction activities, ensuring that projects align with the operational needs of the treatment plants.

- Supervises staff in the operational, mechanical and laboring activities within the sewage treatment plants.
- Trains and evaluates personnel in biological and chemical processes, plant operations, maintenance and safety procedures.
- Oversees the biosolids land application program, its supervisor and staff.
- Reviews and interprets biological and chemical data and directs Plant Operators of process changes
- Ensures that equipment is functioning smoothly; advises operators about equipment operations.
- Develops reports of plant operations for the Division Manager and delivers instructions concerning changes in procedures or special situations to Plant Operators
- Compiles necessary operating and time reports.
- Determines the necessity for immediate action in the case of emergencies.
- May assume duties in superintendent\'s absence.

Requirements of Work

- Thorough knowledge of the functions and mechanics of sewage treatment machinery and equipment and of its servicing and maintenance
- Thorough knowledge of the processes involved in the treatment and disposal of sewage
- Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others
- Ability to prepare reports on routine plant operations; read and interpret technical repair manuals; and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to develop and implement SOPs
- Ability to tolerate exposure to chemicals and fluids commonly used in building and equipment maintenance and repair; airborne environmental nuisances associated with machine exhaust and open grounds; and machinery noise with the use of ear plugs; carry bulky loads weighing up to 50 pounds; work outdoors whe n inclement weather conditions are present; correctly wear a face mask for self-contained breathing apparatus; and use a computer to access, interpret, and record information
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, and representatives of regulatory and other outside agencies, which may include the farming community
- May require the ability to administer contracts with the private sector.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver\'s license.
