DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will take on the responsibility of offering scientific expertise as an engineering specialist to colleagues by independently assessing and addressing engineering challenges, particularly those related to distinctive technical pollution issues. Your duties will include the evaluation and analysis of technical engineering data pertinent to the activities of two key programs: the regional Environmental Cleanup and Brownfield Program and the Waste Management Program. You will engage in a range of tasks within the Hazardous Site Cleanup Program, which encompasses the investigation and remediation of hazardous sites, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations, policies, and procedures that govern the identification, investigation, and cleanup processes under the Federal Superfund and State Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act.
Moreover, your responsibilities will extend to the examination of both general and specific technical engineering elements related to soil and groundwater remediation, including the management of water and air emissions resulting from these cleanup operations and other associated activities. As a member of the Facilities Section, you and your team will also be tasked with reviewing permit applications for various waste management categories, including Municipal, Residual, and Hazardous Waste Management. Typical projects you may encounter involve landfills, transfer stations, waste processing facilities, and sites dedicated to the storage and treatment of hazardous waste. Additionally, you will work under the supervision of the Environmental Group Manager within the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Section, and this critical position will be conducted under the oversight of a Licensed Professional Engineer in the Waste Management Program, as necessary, to fulfill the job requirements in accordance with relevant legal standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the training program for Environmental Engineering Trainee; or Two years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or One year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; o One year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering; or Graduate study in environmental engineering or in a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits. Condition of Employment: This position requires possession of a valid Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.
Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
