• Work from blueprints, sketches or computer aided designs to set up machines.
• Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly.
• Machinist should also be capable of using manual machines such as Lathes, Milling Machines, and Grinders to construct a variety of precision components.
• Machinist must be capable of verifying dimensions, sizes and shapes of close tolerance work pieces using various precision measuring devices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Good math, problem-solving, and computer skills are important.
• Machinist training and skills can be achieved through apprenticeship programs, vocation schools, community colleges or technical colleges and/or on the job training.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine shop required.
• Ability to work independently and closely follow directions.
