Actalent Land Survey Crew Chief in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Title: Land Survey Crew ChiefJob Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Land Surveyor / Crew Chief to lead a crew on projects throughout the S.E. region. The individual will be based out of the Wilmington office and support projects around the coast of NC. This role involves working as a surveyor in the field, independently or leading a small team. The primary objectives of this position include ensuring quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of work, meeting regulatory requirements, maintaining public relations, ensuring safety, adhering to schedules and budgets, and providing responsive service to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that could affect the survey.

  • Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.

  • Supervise the standard of work performed and derive necessary field calculations from completed work.

  • Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.

  • Ensure that angles, distances, and other collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.

  • Coordinate survey findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.

  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain necessary data for surveys.

  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.

  • Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.

  • Complete daily logs and expense reports.

  • Complete company and/or client safety forms and ensure all crew members follow safety procedures.

  • Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.

  • Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and equipment for measuring, sighting, and leveling is required.

  • Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in survey field operations with at least 2 years as an Instrument Operator.

  • Good technical skills; process-oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, problem-solver, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, and structured.

  • Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment).

  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in Construction Stakeouts, Topographic surveys, Hydro Survey, and Alta is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with Civil 3D and utility locating is a plus.

  • Ability to travel overnight as required.

Work Environment

The individual will be working out of the Wilmington, NC office. The majority of the time will be spent in the field, with potential travel within the region (NC, SC, VA). If travel extends beyond a daily commute, overnight stays will be required and compensated. The primary workload is within a daily commute, but travel expectations are set at 60%.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00
