Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project
Key Responsibilities
Technology (process/product) receivership within the community
Work closely with sending teams to maximize potential for success of incoming processes/products
Collect data for incoming processes/products and compare vs. metrics
Trend analysis (by equipment, attribute, product) and monitoring/response plans
Recommend improvements to process/equipment and drive equipment robustness
Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions
Ensure accurate documentation for incoming processes/products
Manufacturing improvement corrective action plans and solutions
Provide inputs about equipment maintenance requirements and shortfalls
Identify when engineering support is required to address significant production platform/process/specification issues or changes
Work with MET Techs to drive equipment/process standardization and continuous improvements
Work with MET Supervisor to determine if MET resources are needed to support incoming processes/products
Interface with MET resources in other sections to drive consistency and share best practices
Interface with Engineering, Infrastructure/Maintenance, Supply Chain, IT and PPD
Work with Operations team to include section supervision, shift supervision, and associates as required to ensure teams understand new processes/products
Experiences/Education - Required
BS or greater in Mechanical, Chemical or Material Science
0-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong data analysis skills
Experience with Excel (pivot tables) and Access
Demonstrated project leadership
Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively
Directive and autonomous
Decision making and prioritization
Communication skills
Experiences/Education - Desired
Experience with PI process books
Ability to work within a team and provide training to others
Ability to allocate/supervise resources to accomplish goals

The range for this position is $66,664.00 - $91,663.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
