Job Description – Purchasing Agent

Location: Wilsonville, OR

On-site - Monday – Friday

Purpose of Job: APCON is a leading manufacturer and provider of network visibility solutions, empowering organizations to monitor and manage their network traffic efficiently. The Purchasing Agent at APCON provides support by coordinating material purchase orders, negotiating the price and maintaining high vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all purchasing activities with suppliers and vendors.

  • Coordinate purchasing activities with approved vendors, ensuring alignment with product requirements and future projections.

  • Maintain regular technical communication with the engineering team to understand specifications for orders like boards, discrete components (resisters, capacitors, etc.)

  • Knowledge of integrated circuits, displays, mechanical components, custom sheet metal and custom PCBs.

  • Verify that materials ordered meet specifications through supplier verification processes.

  • Conduct market research to inform sourcing decisions and select suppliers according to established standards.

  • Negotiate favorable prices and terms with suppliers to minimize lead times and disruptions.

  • Ensure prices align with expectations and seek out cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality standards.

  • Support vendor relationships, payments, shipping terms, and Service Level Agreements.

  • Address issues with defective or unacceptable goods with suppliers, taking corrective action as necessary.

  • Fulfilling other job responsibilities as needed.

    Qualifications and Requirements :

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in supply chain, buyer roles with a preference for experience in a manufacturing setting or related domain.

  • Complete technical knowledge of the PCBs materials, layers, thickness, hole sizes, surface finish and solder paste and components.

  • Understanding of PCB/ SMT manufacturing processes, materials, and specifications.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Knowledge of ERP(Sage)/ MRP(MISys) systems or any similar software.

  • Strong experience with creating and managing purchase orders.

  • Comfort with computers and electronic mediums.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

    Education:

  • A bachelor’s  degree, in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field, is preferred.
