Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies Material Handler in Windber, Pennsylvania

  1. MAINTAIN SUPPLIES FOR AGENCY by:
  • Transporting/removing materials; accepting donations, loading/unloading trucks, operating vehicles and equipment, maintaining inventory accuracy
  1. PROCESS SALVAGE MATERIALS by:
  • Processing salvage into various categories for aftermarket sale by sorting into categories and processing using various equipment and containers
  • Processing trash using crusher compactor
  1. KEEPS EQUIPMENT OPERATIONAL by:
  • Inspects/maintains agency vehicles/equipment and reports/records on a daily basis
  1. PROVIDE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION by
  • Greeting/thanking/building rapport with internal and external customers/donors
  • Assisting customers
  • Giving receipts, processing returns, providing accurate information, maintaining inventory levels
  • Maintain clean safe environment ? interior/exterior
  • Works as attendant both at regular and for special donation drives, as needed.
  1. PROVIDE TRAINING TO PARTICIPANTS by:
  • Instructing in proper material handling
  • Report progress of participants to supervisor
  • Additional Job Results: All employees perform other functions, on request, for the benefit of the Agency.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED The Material Handler works under the direct supervision of the Logistics Manager, but performs many routine duties within established guidelines without direction

SUPERVISION EXCERCISED None, the Material Handler may, however, direct Goodwill participants and trainees in the performance of their duties.

CLASSIFICATIONS Full-time or Part-time Nonexempt, subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Experience: Two years of experience working in a warehouse setting preferred

Skills/Abilities/Other Qualifications Required

  1. Ability to work congenially and effectively with other store employees and other Goodwill employees.
  2. Ability to interact appropriately with store customers and donors.
  3. Must maintain excellent hygiene/grooming standards.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly with customers, co-workers and staff.
  5. Ability to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including evenings, weekends, holidays and occasionally long hours (more than 8 hours).
  6. Must be dependable in attendance and punctuality.
  7. Ability to perform basic job duties with a minimal amount of supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative.
  8. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. or more frequently.
  9. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally, (material handling equipment will be used to minimize effort expended when practical).
  10. Ability to use computers for time management, inventory control, salvage processing, and equipment inspections -- software used includes UltiPro, Quickbase, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email accounts
  11. Ability to do prolonged standing and walking.
  12. Ability to do frequent bending, stooping and stretching.
  13. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits.
  14. Must have an operating home phone so he/she can be contacted quickly.
  15. Access to dependable transportation.
  16. Ability to move carts, racks and boxes of aterials as part of the production process, using material handling equipment when practical.
  17. Ability to safely operate baling machine.
  18. Ability to safely operate forklift.
  19. Ability to safely operate crusher compactor

Skills/Abilities/Other Qualifications that are a Plus:

  1. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, with a clean driving record.
  2. Ability to pass required Pennsylvania State Medical Exam for Drivers of Commercial Vehicles.
