Windham Mountain Resort SKI AND RIDE SCHOOL MANAGER in Windham, New York

Overview of Position: The Ski and Ride School Manager oversees all aspects of the lesson experience for guests and employees. This position is responsible for oversight of scheduling, sales and reservations, lesson organization, quality of lesson delivery, performance management of supervisors and staff, ensuring guest expectations are met, and achieving budgeted financial goals. This key leadership position will be an integral component of creating alignment throughout the ski and ride school to attain both long-term goals and short-term objectives.

Job Duties :

  • Lead a team of operations supervisors in goal setting, training, and performance management of instructors

  • Ensure guest expectations are met or exceeded; resolve any guest service issues effectively

  • Manage staff scheduling, payroll, and any personnel issues that may arise in a timely and consistent manner

  • Ensure compliance with safety and health standards, policies, and procedures

  • Create and manage class groupings to ensure high lesson quality while achieving budgeted class average ratios

  • Ensure instructor-guest pairings meet the needs of the guest and employee alike

  • Drive a culture of guest and employee retention through authentic relationship-building

  • Create, develop and implement innovative product offerings that meet and exceed our guest and membership expectations

  • Manage Ski and Ride School processes to ensure efficiency and seamless delivery of product quality

  • Manage product sales levels to maximize revenue opportunities while delivering high-quality lesson experiences

  • Lead staff development and training initiatives that enhance the quality of coaching

  • Ensure all desk staff have strong product knowledge and communication skills

  • Actively participate in the budgeting process for designated lines of business, and the Ski and Ride School as a whole

  • Other undefined duties may be periodically required

    Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must have minimum three seasons experience teaching skiing and/or snowboarding

  • Experience as a supervisor or manager in a ski and ride school strongly preferred

  • PSIA/AASI Level 2 Certification or higher, or equivalent required

  • PSIA/AASI Children’s Specialist Accreditation preferred

  • Experience as a staff trainer at a recognized ski and ride school preferred

  • Must have intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook

  • Experience with RTP and/or Pro Card technology preferred

  • Must have High school diploma or equivalent, college degree in relevant field preferred

  • Skiing or Snowboarding ability:

  • Must be an advanced level skier or snowboarder capable of skiing or riding all mountain terrain

  • Must have a strong understanding of the Alpine Responsibility Code

  • Teaching Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate on long-term goals and short-term objectives with the leadership team and instructor staff to achieve consistent high-quality lesson experiences

  • Create and lead an environment in which the instructor staff, supervisors, and staff trainers can manage information, activities, terrain selection, and pacing of lessons to achieve desired outcomes

  • Promote play, experimentation, and exploration of skills and mountain terrain by providing ample resources and support for instructor staff, supervisors, and trainers to effectively utilize

  • Adapt product delivery tactics to the changing needs of the students and staff

  • Facilitate the ability to reflect upon experiences and sensations to continuously promote development of staff and lesson programming

  • Manage emotional and physical risk of students and instructors by ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone

  • Technical Skills:

  • Convey and apply accurate technical information for the activities being taught to effectively support supervisors and instructor staff to perform to their full potential as employees

  • Observe and evaluate movement patterns and skills of lesson groups and prescribe accurate information in group and individual settings to promote enhancement of the instructor staff’s teaching skills, technical skills, and people skills

  • Understand the Alpine Skiing and Snowboard Fundamentals and how they apply to lessons of varying skill levels to continuously enhance the quality of the lesson experience

  • People Skills:

  • Develop relationships based on trust with all stakeholders to effectively lead the program with clear expectations, consistency, and transparency

  • Engage in meaningful two-way communication with all stakeholders to effectively understand and solve any guest or employee issues, develop strategy for growth based on candid feedback, and effectively manage operational logistics

  • Identify, understand, and manage your emotions and actions in a manner that fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to achieve their goals and motivates instructors to perform to their full potential

  • Recognize and influence the behaviors, motivations, and emotions of your team to build and foster authentic connections that create a strong work culture dedicated to achieving the school’s goals

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to regularly and consistently move equipment or people weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to position self to access boots, skis, snowboards or other equipment on the ground or snow surface for yourself and/or students

  • Must be able to observe and identify (visually and auditorily) potential hazards and obstacles including but not limited to safe trail and traffic merging, appropriate lift riding, changing snow conditions, and avoidance of other people and obstacles

  • Must be able to safely walk, hike, ski or snowboard, and navigate uneven terrain with snow and ice-covered hills and surfaces

  • Must be able to ski or snowboard comfortably and safely on all mountain terrain up to 6 hours per day

  • Must be able to work in any outdoor winter weather conditions for up to 6 hours per day

  • Must have ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand and must be able to understand the speech of another person

  • Must be able to deliver and receive written communication to complete class lists, timecards, incident reports, and other essential paperwork, and have the ability to read communication delivered by the company including but not limited to emails, work assignments, bulletin board notices, and resort signage

  • Other physical demands that may be occasionally required are as follows: Pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, and reaching

  • Must be at least 18 years old

    Work Schedule and Conditions: We are in the business of providing a quality product and experience for our guests. Traditionally our busy periods are during weekends and holiday periods which you will be expected to work. You can also expect to be asked to work extra hours or days on occasion, especially during the holiday periods.

    We will attempt to offer consecutive days off and accommodate special scheduling requests, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to satisfy all requests. We expect employees to arrive promptly.
