Description
The Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union is seeking a dynamic Director for our Food Service Program.
Each school has a Lead Cook and for the day-to-day operations. They serve both breakfast and lunch in
coordination with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Job duties would include, but not be limited
to: menu planning, ordering, staff supervision, and oversight of all rules and regulations associated with
the NSLP. The Director of Food Service will also oversee the implementation of nutrition and food
education by finding innovative ways to keep the school meal programs supplied with fresh, seasonal,
and sustainably grown produce and products, and by building partnerships between the school educators
and regional agriculture.

Specific Job Qualifications
? Training, experience and ability in managing a food service operation;
? Expertise in large quantity meal preparation and menu planning;
? Strong human relations, communication, and business/financial management skills;
? Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
? Valid Vermont Drivers License
? Valid Servsafe Certificate
? School Nutrition Specialist Certification or willingness to obtain certification
? Bachelors degree in any academic major, or at least 3 years of relevant school nutrition programs
experience
Specific Duties
1. Supervises, coordinates and evaluates work of all school nutrition employees in preparing and
serving food, and cleaning facilities and utensils in a production kitchen;
2. Participates in menu planning with School Lead Cook to reflect adherence to mandated child
nutrition requirements and other program goals for school nutrition service and is responsive to
customer preferences and child nutrition trends that encourage high participation in the school
meals program;
3. Plans and directs weekly and daily food production with staff to ensure maximum efficiency,
accuracy, and quality in all meal programs including any vending or catering operations, and
afterschool meals and snacks;
4. Oversees and participates in the preparation and serving of healthy and highly nutritious food for
students and adults;
5. Accurately forecasts and plans the purchase of food and supplies to maintain program quality and
efficiency;
6. Accurately places orders, purchasing WSESU approved products, not over or under ordering,
using inventory to guide purchasing, and ordering within budget;
7. Accurately provides a system for collecting, counting, and securing monies prior to depositing on
a regular basis;
8. Maintains required program records including menu production, inventory, meal counts, deposit
records, and food safety records in such a way as to ensure accuracy and organization;
9. Ensures that established sanitation and safety standards are maintained and School Nutrition
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for food safety are understood and followed by all staff;
10. Ensures that students and adults are treated with respect and given good servi ce;
11. In consultation with the Lead Cook ensures that meals are attractive and tasty and the supply of
food offered during service is replenished regularly and that all serving areas are kept clean
during service;
12. In consultation with the Lead Cook ensures daily clean up of the kitchen, service areas and
cafeteria tables, according to mandated health and safety requirements.
13. Oversees safe storage of all foods before and after service and proper disposal of unused or
outdated foods;
14. Desire to incorporate farm to school programming in school district menus by using fresh,
seasonal, sustainably grown produce and products while building positive community
partnerships;
15. Works with teachers, administrators, parents and other school partners to ensure a healthy
school food environment for all students including healthy school initiatives, nutrition education
activities, taste testing of new foods, and healthy food promotions;
