Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Lead Social Services Assistant in Winter Park, Florida

Summary This position is located in Winter Park FL, and provides information and guidance to veterans on the Whole Health Program, and assists them in navigating the Whole Health System at the assigned Medical Center. The Lead Social Services Assistant is an integral part of supporting the Whole Health Pathway, Whole Health Facilitated Groups, Whole Health Partners and Veterans in navigating the Whole Health Journey within the VA Medical Center and the Community. Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to: Acts as the Veterans' point of Contact to navigate through the Whole Health Program (pathway, health and well- being programs). Functions as the steward of how to navigate the whole health system and orient Veterans new to the program about the services, hours, locations, staff, tools, resources, and other pertinent information. Provides information and advocates for Veterans' personal health goals and plan, and shared goals with clinical care team. Assists the Veterans to explore core elements of personal health planning, exploration of what matters to the Veteran, self-assessment using the components of health and well-being. Assist with identification of goals and potential actions in self-care areas, and identification of support and follow-up to implement a plan. Assists Veterans in this exploration through one-to-one or group sessions. Informs Veterans about community and mutual supports and how to use these to support health and well-being goals. Facilitates groups and Whole Health introduction/Orientation offerings. Responsible for leading the Whole Health Partners and Skill development team. Oversees the fidelity to the Whole Health model of Taking Charge of My Life and Health. Distributes and balances workloads among employees in accordance with established workflow, or job specialization. Assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload and assures that each employee has enough work. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees. Amends or reject work not meeting established standards. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/02/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs. Counselor in a youth summer camp. Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills. Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew. Group activities leader in the Armed Services. Unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development. Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Providing information and advocating for Veterans' personal health goals and plan; orienting participants new to the program about services, hours, locations, staff, tools, resources, and other pertinent information necessary to understand the program and how to utilize the program; distributes and balances workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, monitors working conditions, delivers on-the-job training to new employees, instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available written instructions, references, materials and supplies; reports to supervisor on performance progress, training needs of employees, behavior problems, promotions, re-assignment, recognition of outstanding performance and personal needs; checks on work in progress, or spot checks work not requiring review, as well as ensuring that agency's policies and priorities are being followed. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must successfully completed at least one-half of graduate level education (9 semester hours above a bachelor's degree) or an internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:The work is generally performed sitting at a desk.
