Job Description

What You'll Do: As a Festival Foods Apprentice Baker, you will:

  • Recipe & Production Control: Follow recipes and production lists precisely to produce high-quality pastry and bakery items. Ensure all products meet freshness and quality standards, with proper handling of outdated items and accurate shrink reporting.

  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized baker prep area, ensuring all surfaces, tools, and equipment are sanitized at all times. Adhere to Health Department guidelines and Festival Foods sanitation and safety practices, including proper glove use.

  • Inventory & Stock Management: Monitor the sales floor to determine what products need to be made to ensure proper coverage, especially during peak hours. Keep cooler, freezer, and dry storage areas clean and organized.

  • Guest Service: Provide excellent food service by assisting guests with finding items, taking and executing special orders, and addressing any concerns or issues with products. Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor at all times.

  • Food Safety Compliance: Maintain food safety logs and ensure all quality standards are met, including meeting quantity expectations by designated times.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with all Bakery associates to meet department goals and support a positive team environment.

  • Honor Commitments: Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences

  • Support the Team: Other duties as assigned

    What We're Looking For: To succeed as a Festival Foods Apprentice Baker, you should have:

  • Experience and Skills: Ability to effectively deal with guests and team members in a fast-paced retail food service environment. A basic understanding of bakery operations and a strong desire to learn and grow in the baker and pastry field.

  • Certification: Completion of Food Safe Certification Class upon hire or within 6 months of hire

  • Safety Knowledge: Follow all safety requirements and company safety policies, with proper training and knowledge of bakery equipment and procedures, including ovens, mixers, and slicing machinery.

  • Customer Focus: Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel.

  • Effective Problem-Solving:Ability to quickly assess and resolve issues in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, while supporting team members.

  • Retail Expertise: Knowledge of the retail food business and perishable department operations, with the ability to make timely and effective decisions.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability to perform the essential functions

  • Stand in one spot for a long period of time, bend stoop, and kneel regularly (70% of time)

  • Full range of upper body motion

  • Lifting up to 60 pounds on a frequent basis (50% of time)

  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures (20% of time)

  • Frequently near moving machinery (70% of time)

  • Repetitive motion of hands and wrists

    Work Schedule: The Apprentice Baker is an hourly position that may be part-time or full-time. The work schedule generally includes mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to work evenings or overnight as needed.
